When “Lucifer” returns Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) is making out with some hot Aussie man (Steven Jaeys) before she starts in on a rant about how Lucifer (Tom Ellis) just left and how she went through literal Hell for him and saved Chloe (Lauren German) who she would much rather have dead. When Lucifer told her she was too much he left which put Charlotte in the company of Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) who tells her that Lucifer is probably plotting his revenge as they speak since she God isn’t there to take it out on.

Lucifer as we find him is making a deal with some mobster looking men to which they ask him if he’s sure about this to which he just throws a suitcase full of money at them telling them that it’s his funeral before handing over the briefcase. What’s inside no one knows. Dan (Kevin Alejandro) is asking Chloe if she still hasn’t heard anything from Lucifer and she tells him that she went by his apartment and everything was covered and that there was no sign of him. As Chloe tells Dan that it’s been two weeks she then attempts to change the topic when they reach the crime scene where Ella (Aimee Garcia) tells them both that she misses Lucifer and that he was the best hugger describing him as squirmier on the outside but on the inside. He was “warm and fuzzy,” according to Ella. When she realizes that what she said she apologizes to Chloe and says she guessed he hasn’t called her either. Ella explains the victim was Ashe, a musician who was killed by what looks like blunt force trauma to the head. They are going to get some mold to determine the weapon. Chloe and Dan go to question the members of Ashe’s band and they tell them to go talk to Ashe’s ex-wife Courtney (Felisha Terrell) who has gotten violent once with him. When they get back to the station Dan tells Chloe that Courtney was in fact charged with domestic violence, but the charges were dropped about this time Lucifer yells out to Chloe who looks just as shocked. She checks him over to make sure he is okay. When she starts talking Lucifer hushes her and tells her he is about to explain why he was gone when a woman comes in looking for him. He introduces her to Dan and Chloe as Candy Morningstar (Lindsey Gort), his wife.

Lucifer and Chloe talk about how he just waltzes back in married to who Chloe calls a “stripper.” Lucifer tells Chloe that this wasn’t how he wanted to tell her about his marriage all the while Candy is sitting at the desk playing with a Newton’s Cradle that gets on Chloe’s nerves. Lucifer tells Chloe that he had some family issues and he went to Vegas to blow off some steam and he should have told her he needed some time off. Chloe tells him that it’s not about time cards or time off requests. She stops and finally tells him that she thought they were friends. Chloe talks to Courtney asking why all of Ashe’s bandmates would think she wanted him dead and Courtney says that she had nothing to do with it. Courtney tells her just like every night she was at work. Courtney tells Chloe that Ashe thought that the band would provide, but one of them had to be mature about it and actually have a job.

Courtney tells Chloe that she and Ashe fought and she’s not proud of it, but that Ashe got all of it in the divorce. Chloe asked what she’s talking about and is told that she agreed to sit down with the marriage mediator, but she thinks Ashe and he had a prearranged deal set up because Ashe got everything. When Chloe asked why Ashe would have been couch surfing Courtney tells her that maybe the mediator took it because he was the real crook. Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Charlotte look into what Lucifer has been up to when Amenadiel found Candy’s Wobble account showing her and Lucifer posted photos after they had gotten married. This shocks Charlotte and makes Amenadiel mad because Lucifer told him to watch over Chloe. Charlotte told Amenadiel that Maze must have been right and that Lucifer has a plan. Back at the station, Lucifer goes to talk to Chloe when Candy points out “Mannequin hair” that’s in a few photos that they have up on the board. Dan goes to check into it when Lucifer tells Chloe he’ll get Candy a cab and then they can go because he’ll bring his much-needed musical expertise. Chloe tells Lucifer that their partnership was over when Lucifer ghosted the squad and her and that he can’t just “grab what you what when you want.” Chloe tells him that he let her down asking what good is a partner when she can’t depend on him.

Lucifer and Candy go see Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) as she asks them multiple questions to show Lucifer her disapproval for this marriage. When Linda asks if there were any rash decisions Lucifer tells her no and that he thinks he thought through everything quiet carefully. Candy tells Linda that he’s a thinker. When Linda asks Lucifer about Chloe, Lucifer tells her that everything he felt for Chloe was smoke and mirrors thanks to his dad. Linda asks, “Why return to Chloe at all?” Lucifer replies, “I felt that I missed my work.” He then asks Linda if she would split up Batman and Robin. Lucifer hides behind a plant when Dan comes out of the office, which Dan says he knew he was being followed. Lucifer told him that he is just trying to make things right again. This leads to Lucifer and Candy showing up at Chloe’s apartment telling her that he made an appointment with the mediator for he and Candy. As they talk, Maze checks out Candy telling him that Lucifer has outdone himself. Chloe tells Lucifer no and shows them out. Lucifer and Candy go back to LUX to find Charlotte waiting for him, Candy tells Charlotte that she needs to start using sunscreen so she can look like her when she gets older, Charlotte asks Candy if she likes shopping which excites Candy.

Chloe who is angry scrubbing the counter top stops when Maze asks her what they think of Candy. Chloe tells her that she thinks Candy is the perfect match for Lucifer as she starts to scrub at the counter again. Maze tells Chloe that she knows Lucifer better than anyone and that he does this some times and that he always comes back. She tells Chloe maybe she and Lucifer need a mediator before walking out of kitchen. Chloe and Lucifer go to the marriage mediator, Anthony Annan (Jonathan Togo), only Chloe is acting as though she’s Candy. As they talk they slowly reveal feelings that have been built up and that Lucifer admits it’s because Chloe almost dying that he was afraid. When Lucifer asks Chloe if he’s ever lied to her Chloe tells both Anthony and Lucifer that she doesn’t know.  They get Anthony to admit that he and Ashe had a plan that he was going to become their manager and that the band was going to take off when he tells them that Ashe and Marla (Minni Jo Mazzola) were in an argument. He thought for sure Ashe was going to kick Marla out when he found out Ashe had been killed.

Charlotte and Candy window shop when Charlotte asks Candy what kind of plans she and Lucifer have when Candy tells Charlotte she wants to open up a tanning salon and a juice bar. Charlotte, not understanding anything that Candy is talking about, is confused when Candy tells her that she has Lucifer’s back and her back. So, she throws her arms around Charlotte’s neck excited because now Charlotte is her mom, too.  When Charlotte gets back to her office and talks to Amenadiel she tells him that Candy is “a sinister genius and the most formidable opponent I’ve ever faced.” Amenadiel tells her that it’s probably not that then gets Charlotte to admit that she pushed Lucifer to go down this route and that he truly is that far gone because she was being too hard on him and that she’s a terrible mother. Chloe talks to Dan and Ella when he asks Chloe how she got all the details. She tells them that she got in to see the mediator because Lucifer did a thing. Ella gets so excited saying, “I knew you guys would patch things up!” only to have her hopes broken when Chloe tells her, “Not even close.” Ella picks up the band’s calendar and stops in her speech when she notices Marla’s guitar and tells them they match the wounds found on Ashe.

Chloe ends up at a bar venue that had a band going telling someone on the phone that Marla’s roommate said she was there. The band gets upset when they are interrupted by Lucifer who tells them that the song he is about to sing is for someone there tonight and that they didn’t need him. He starts singing the classic 90’s song “Eternal Flame” by The Bangles. When he asks the crowd if Marla is there they push her on stage. He tells Chloe that she does need him to which she just smiles. Lucifer and Chloe go to Ella who tells them that they have a stalker when they find Amenadiel waiting for Lucifer. Amenadiel tells Lucifer that he watched over Chloe like he asked him to do because he thought Chloe meant something to him. Lucifer admits that he was protecting Chloe from himself and giving her the choice back that she didn’t have to begin with. Amenadiel suggests that Lucifer should talk to Charlotte because she literally went to Hell and faced her fears for Lucifer. Chloe and Dan go to talk to Marla when she asks Dan when he and Lucifer got so close to which he tells her after Lucifer helped save her life. Marla tells them she didn’t kill Ashe and that she ran because she was providing fake IDs to kids. She tells them to check Wobble and when they do they discover that Doug (James Neate) the drummer was the last one to have Marla’s guitar.

Chloe and Lucifer go to Doug’s apartment when Lucifer’s phone goes off. He answers as Chloe goes to check the apartment. He tells Candy that he can’t talk as Doug wraps a cord around Lucifer’s neck. Chloe comes in and tells Doug to let Lucifer go. He tells Chloe if she wants Lucifer alive she will drop her gun. Lucifer tells Doug to just finish him off because Chloe doesn’t need him. She shoots Doug in the shoulder making sure Lucifer is okay before handcuffing Doug. After it is over Candy finds Lucifer and Chloe and tells Chloe that she was all Lucifer could talk about after everything happened and why he came back. Chloe tells Lucifer she’ll see him tomorrow morning and tells him to not be late. As the episode ends, we discover that Mrs. Morningstar was someone helping Lucifer pull a con over his family after him helping her out in Vegas. Before she leaves she tells Lucifer to not mess anything up with Chloe to which he says as the car is pulling away, “I’m trying not to.”
