Lucifer – Super Bad Boyfriend

Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is freaking out. He’s trying and failing to harangue a slightly terrified plastic surgeon into removing his new wings without explaining that they’re actual wings. Just before things can go truly sideways Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) walks in.

He wants to know what’s going on. Lucifer tells Dr. Chan (Howard Chan) to leave and once he Amenadiel wants to know why Lucifer was being so intense with the guy. Lucifer doesn’t answer and instead wants to know what his brother wants. A request and an update. He informs Lucifer about the drama with their sister and asks him to be the baby’s Godfather. Lucifer finds the request surprising and laughable, but Amenadiel is freaking out and Lucifer is to about the possibility of being evil. On Amenadiel’s side he worries that the baby’s coming and he knows pretty much nothing about being a father. Lucifer says he should go talk to some humans.

At a crime scene Ella (Aimee Garcia) and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) are trying and failing not to be awkward. They slept together and now agree it shouldn’t happen again, but they should be friends. On the murder front the dead woman is a teacher named Sandra. She was bludgeoned to death. Ella says in addition to being a history teacher Sandra sponsored the future entrepreneurs club. She met with the kids last night, so they were the last people who saw her alive. They’ll need to be interviewed.

But before then Chloe has something to share. She met with Father Kinley and immediately Lucifer is angry. Is she trying to send him to hell again? No, Chloe insists. She wanted to tell him to back off. And she wants to share the prophecy with Lucifer. When the devil walks the earth and finds his first love with his first love then evil shall be released. Chloe is a little freaked out about all this, but Lucifer’s relieved. There’s a reason for the changes he’s experiencing: Eve (Inbar Lavi).

Lucifer tells Eve the prophecy, but she’s not worried. Quite the opposite. The prophecy being true means Lucifer loves her. Lucifer, thinks the evil being released part is more important and says they may need to break up. Eve says no, Lucifer’s just scared, but he doesn’t need to worry. She then promises never to give up on him. Lucifer doesn’t seem thrilled about that.

Now for the club kids. They start with a girl named Lexi (Anna Grace Barlow). She says Sandra was awesome and didn’t seem upset the last time they talked. But she says a boy named Caleb (Denny Love) is troubled and might’ve had a grudge against her. Lucifer and Chloe talk to him. While Chloe questions Lucifer tries to figure out how to get out of his relationship. Caleb says he didn’t have a problem with Sandra, but a boy named Nate (Michael Provost) did.

Nate admits he was angry with Sandra because she was sleeping with his father. His parents were separated and he thinks they could’ve worked things out if not for the teacher. Lucifer asks Nate what the final nail in the coffin for his parents marriage was and he says therapy. Lucifer is inspired.

Later at LUX Amenadiel asks a string of confused clubbers about child rearing. It doesn’t go well. He’s about to give up when Caleb walks in. He’s looking for Lucifer. Amenadiel says Lucifer is out, but he’s his brother and wonders how can he help. Caleb needs more help than you might imagine. He shows Amenadiel a bag of drugs.  Reminder, Caleb’s about fifteen so Amendiel wants to know what he’s doing with all these drugs?

A dealer gave them to Caleb to sell. He did it once, but doesn’t want to do it again. Tahir (Antwon Tanner), the scary drug dealer; however, doesn’t want to let him off the hook. He hopes Lucifer can buy the drugs and get the dealer off his back, but Amenadiel says Tahir will likely just give him more drugs later. Then what’s Caleb going to do? Amenadiel says he’ll help.

Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) is giving speed dating a shot and hating it. She’s trying to follow Linda’s (Rachel Harris) advice to find connection, but no such luck.

Lucifer takes Eve to counseling, but the couple clearly thinks they’re there for different reasons. Lucifer wants to end the relationship and Eve thinks they’re there to grow. He wants to talk about things likely to encourage a fight, but instead Linda and Eve bond over Lucifer’s annoying qualities.

So, how’d Caleb get mixed up with Tahir? He met him at a club. He and his friends seemed cool and then he offered a way to make money. Amenadiel wonders why Caleb couldn’t just say no. The boy explains Tahir is not the kind of guy you can say no to. Speaking of which, Caleb is worried that Tahir’s not going to take this well. Amenadiel promises everything will be fine.

When they meet Tahir we see Amenadiel tell him that Caleb is out. As predicted, Tahir doesn’t take it well. After a show of force from Amenadiel, Tahir says Caleb has to pay him. Amenadiel says he’ll cover whatever Caleb owes. Tahir says he needs collateral. Since Amenadiel says Caleb is off the table, he leaves the necklace his father gave him instead.

Chloe and Lucifer interview Nate’s father. He explains the affair with Sandra was over and, in fact, he was getting back together with his wife. Lucifer asks why his wife dumped him and he just says he was such a bad husband he gave her no choice. We get a montage of Lucifer trying to be a bad boyfriend through ignoring Eve, choosing “friends” over Eve and even cheating on Eve. It seems that she’s cool with all of it though.

Later Amenadiel and Caleb are having ice cream and walking. Amenadiel wants to know why a nice kid like Caleb was hanging out with such a rough crowd. He explains he was lonely. His school is full of white rich kids. He’s neither white nor rich, so friends were hard to come by. Tahir and his gang looked like him and he didn’t know about the drugs in the beginning.

Caleb wonders why Amenadiel is going out of his way to help him. Amenadiel explains he’s going to be a father soon. He sees some of what his son could be like in Caleb. The sweet moment is cut short by police sirens. Two police officers say Caleb is wanted for murder. They arrest him and throw him to the ground. Amenadiel is horrified and tries to help, insisting that Caleb is innocent. Unfortunately, for his trouble he gets a gun pointed at him. Luckily, Dan shows up and tells the officers Amenadiel is his friend, which gets them to back off a little.

At the station Amenadiel is certain of Caleb’s innocence and still upset by the way the officers treated them. Dan promises to file a complaint against them for excessive force. When Amenadiel asks what’ll come of that Dan admits probably nothing.

In his cell Caleb is resigned to prison. Amenadiel promises to get him a good lawyer and prove his innocence, but Caleb says that no one will believe he didn’t kill his teacher because people will only see what they want.  He points out that Amenadiel didn’t do anything wrong and was nearly shot.

At LUX Maze and Eve bond over Maze’s bad dates. Eve gives Maze some advice on how to have better dates and offers to let Maze practice with her.

Back at the station Amenadiel pleads Caleb’s case to Chloe, but that’s not necessary. Chloe already figured out something’s not quite right. Amenadiel theorizes that whoever set him up must’ve known he’d be the perfect fall-guy because of the drugs. So, he had Caleb make a list of who he sold two: Nate and Lexi.

They bring Lexi in and she says Nate killed Sandra. Nate says she’s lying. Lexi wanted to go to Harvard more than anything, so Nate got them drugs to study harder but that wasn’t enough. Lexi asked Nate to steal a copy of Sandra’s test, but she found out. When she threatened to go the principal Lexi lost it and killed her. Nate kept the bloody clothes.

Caleb is off the hook and Amenadiel promises he’s around if he ever needs anything. Caleb says his son’s a lucky kid. Dan picks a fight with Maze, who’s starting to crush a little on Eve. Speaking of Eve, she’s worried Lucifer is pushing her away.

Her talk with Maze makes Eve realize that she deserves better than Lucifer’s recent treatment. When she calls him on it, Lucifer apologizes. But, that’s why Lucifer breaks up with her. Eve doesn’t undersand. She’s done everything she can to please him. Lucifer admits that he’s done the same with her. The truth is he doesn’t like who he is with her.

This gets interrupted by some really bad news. Caleb is been found dead and it seems he was shot. This devastates Amenadiel. Lucifer tries to comfort his brother, but Amenadiel just says he knows who’s responsible. They confront Tahir and Amenadiel beats him before stopping himself. He decides the earth isn’t the right place for his son after all.

Chloe goes to check on Lucifer and he explains Amenadiel’s heartbroken and he broke up with Eve. He’s still a little torn up. He doesn’t like who he is with Eve because she wants the old him. He’s not sure he likes who he is with Chloe either.

Amenadiel goes to see Caleb and leaves him the necklace his father gave him. Lucifer has an intense session with Linda. He’s convinced God is using Eve and Chloe to tear him apart. More than that, he wonders if he’s just evil. He admits that he just hates himself and he doesn’t understand why.
