Lucifer – Who’s da New King of Hell?

The season finale opens with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) in a pretty mood. Such a good mood he breaks into song and dance. Since he forgave himself, he later tells Chloe (Lauren German) he thinks the prophecy is null and void. Chloe, ever practical, suggests he take some time off. Lucifer says he can’t because Kinley (Graham McTavish) is on the loose, but Chloe says that’s federal jurisdiction. A good murder then? No such luck. She sends him on the way.

Speaking of Kinley, Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) wants to send him back to jail. She says springing him to begin with was a mistake. Eve (Inbar Lavi) gives Maze a heavily edited version of how the priest got away. And Maze, clearly disappointed, leaves.

In the hospital Lucifer meets baby Charlie and promptly gives him back to Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside). Amenadiel tries to talk with Lucifer about taking the baby to Heaven, but without the specifics Lucifer assumes he’s talking about circumcision.  He goes into Linda’s room to congratulate her and give her Freud’s journals. They’re a parting gift. He’s done with therapy. Linda (Rachael Harris) is unconvinced. Forgiveness, she tells Lucifer, is a process. He doesn’t listen and leaves.

Elsewhere a rapper named Holla Bae (Cleveland Berto) is stabbed on a livestream. Dan (Kevin Alejandro) and Ella (Aimee Garcia) think it was MoNapolize, another rapper Holla was feuding with. Lucifer shows up and Chloe’s apprehensive. She thinks he needs time and Lucifer thinks he’s ready. He promises Chloe will never have to see anything monstrous from him again.

They go to MoNapolize’s house and after Lucifer rips his gate off, there’s a light shootout. When Chloe identifies herself as LAPD, they invite them in and tell an odd story. For starters, Holla and MoNapolize made peace and were planning a tour. Secondly, MoNapolize (Erron Jay) says Holla’s very much alive – despite the very large knife someone plunged into his chest.

He’s not the only one. Chloe sends Lucifer home and while at LUX Kinley, while possessed by a demon, hugs Lucifer. He says they’ve missed their king of hell. Lucifer is taken aback. It seems another demon named Squee is also in toe and is possessing Holla.

Maze explains the situation and there’s an added complication as demon possession is outlawed. Also, they can only possess damned souls.

Speaking of the damned, the real Father Kinley asked Dromos (the demon possessing him) to go to earth and convince Lucifer to come home. As it turns out the demons have really been missing Lucifer. Lucifer makes it clear he has no intention of going back. When Dromos pressed the issue by threatening murder, Lucifer goes into devil mode and tells the demons to go home or else.

At Linda’s house Amenadiel is finding it difficult to get Linda to leave Charlie’s side. She hasn’t put him down since the hospital. He tries to convince her to sleep and she very reluctantly agrees, but she hired a night nurse to watch over him. She’s on her way.

Maze and Chloe go to warn Lucifer, but Lucifer is not bothered. He says he put the fear of him into Dromos and Squee, but Chloe is still worried and Maze is gearing up for a fight. And for good reason. Chloe gets a call where she finds out they need to get to Linda’s house because baby Charlie is missing.

At first everyone is hoping that Amenadiel just took the baby for some fresh air. Plus, the night nurse never showed. Amenadiel though is MIA. Linda hopes that is the case until Lucifer makes a realization. He tells Linda that Amenadiel might’ve taken Charlie to Silver City a/k/a Heaven. This upsets Linda a lot. As a half-angel Charlie and come and go to Heaven freely, he just needs a chaperon.

When Amenadiel walks through the door Linda demands he bring Charlie back. This presents a different problem: if Amenadiel doesn’t have him, who does? On the upside, Amenadiel changed his mind about taking the baby away. Regrettably, the night nurse was an impostor. There is now a different problem, after looking through some pictures Lucifer knows who has the baby. There was a woman with Squee and Dromos. The demons have the baby!

Once filled in Chloe wonders what demons would want with a baby. Lucifer explains that they’re angry that he ordered them to go home and refused to go with them. Fun fact: a demon can’t rule hell. The ruler of hell needs to be an angel, Lucifer speculates a half-angel would work. But, how will they find three demons and a baby?

Eve talks to Dromos and is confused and then horrified. She thought Dromos would just talk to Lucifer as opposed to stealing a child. Eve demands that Dromos return the baby, but Dromos knocks her out. They’re determined that Charlie will be their new king.

Lucifer goes to his loft and finds it trashed. They were searching for and found the vial the original Father Kinley had. They understand the plan. Eve rushes in and explains. She killed the real Kinley and raised the demons, but she swears she didn’t know things would go so wrong.

Eve and Lucifer are pretty upset and demand to know where the demons and baby are. Chloe figures out they’re planning the same ceremony for Charlie they intended for Lucifer. Chloe says they need a house of worship that’s also a den of sin. They’re going to an ancient temple.

Lucifer is gearing up for a fight with the demons and Chloe wants to come. But Lucifer reminds her that she makes her vulnerable. Eve apologizes for the problems caused and wants to help to atone. Lucifer says very well and Amenadiel and Maze arrive.

The demons are about to perform the ceremony and Maze, Lucifer, Amenadiel and Eve walk in. Dromos says Lucifer has been a bad king and Amenadiel just wants his son back. They get in a pretty gory fight and Eve manages to sneak the baby away only to be blocked by a demon. Fortunately, Chloe shows up and together she and Eve kill it.

Before Lucifer delivers the final blow to Dromos we see that Chloe comes in. She makes the beginning of a pretty heartfelt confession about not being afraid of Lucifer anymore, but while he’s distracted Dromos raises more demons. They nearly overwhelm the gang, but Lucifer goes into full on devil mode and orders them to hell. They comply.

Eve is about to leave only to be stopped by Maze. She acknowledges Maze’s feelings and apologizes. They’re connected she admits, but she’s got a problem. She tried to be Adam’s dream woman and then Lucifer’s. She doesn’t know who she is, but she has to figure that out…alone.

Amenadiel takes Charlie back to Linda. She’s happy, but says he should take him to heaven. He’ll be safe there. But Amenadiel says no one would sacrifice for him the way Linda’s willing to so they’ll protect their son together.

Chloe goes to see Lucifer. Everything is okay now, right? Lucifer says no. Now that the demons know he’s not returning to hell they’ll keep defying him. They need a ruler. So, he needs to go back for a little while.

Lucifer tells her the prophecy was right, they got it wrong. Evil was released when the devil met his first love, but that was never Eve. He says hell will come to earth unless he goes back to there. Chloe and Lucifer share a kiss and an “I love you.” Chloe tearfully asks him to stay, but Lucifer just says goodbye. With that he flies away and takes his place on the throne in hell.
