Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would describe my sound as pop/urban with a Latin influence.

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My musical influences are Shakira and JLo. Love them.

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Swipe Dat.”

A) “Swipe Dat” came about when I was out on Miami Beach with one of my friends. We ordered these juices in a big cup and when we got the bill it was over a hundred dollars. I told my friend I wish we didn’t have to check the price and just swipe the card. I went back to my producers, The Fliptones, with the story and that’s how we created “Swipe Dat.”

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think fans connect to the song because it is catchy and everyone wishes they could just Swipe Dat.

 

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video for “Swipe Dat” plays into the message behind the song because it gives off luxury and wealth. In the video, you can see that it is raining money and there is money floating on the pool among other cool things.

 

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics? 

A) I usually write the lyrics first then the melody, and we use it as a base to create the music.

 

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music? 

A) I’m very much involved in the production of my music. I think it’s important to be in the room with my producers and other songwriters to make sure the music reflects my vision.

 

Q) How do your Cuban roots and Miami residence influence your music?

A) My Cuban roots and Miami residence always influence my music. It gives my music flavor.

 

Q) What can fans expect from a live Malu performance?

A) Malu fans can expect a lot of dancing and high energy during my performances!

 

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) Yes, I am currently working on putting together an album for the near future.

 

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you? 

A) I like to perform everywhere. They all mean a lot to me in different ways.

 

Q) How did you come to work with Gente de Zona on the track “Nadie Como Yo?”

A) I came to work with Gente de Zona after my manager showed them the track to “Nadie Como Yo” and they loved it. The song has a lot of Cuban influence and they were perfect for it.

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would love to collaborate with Cardi B or Chris Brown.

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them? 

A) I’m currently listening to Cardi B. I like her because she keeps it real and I can relate to her a lot.

 

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Being on social media allows me to connect with my fans. It’s a platform that makes my fans feel close to me and be part of my daily life. I love to talk to my fans and give them advice and get advice from them also.

 

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say thank you to my fans and supporters, I love you all!
