Matt Jaffe – Hurt Me Now

By  |

“Hurt Me Now” started as a tell-off song, but after demoing it at a studio in Venice Beach, it became a 2-way street with both parties culpable. In Venice, I reworked it on a grand piano painted like a US flag that made me aim for the harmonic grandeur of Tiny Dancer. Ultimately, the studio production was inspired by Ray Davies’ steel guitar on Lola, though the highlight of the song is James DePrato’s lap steel. It’s a song with more than a little vitriol, but not without tenderness.

Matt Jaffe is a rock & roll singer/songwriter from San Francisco. Cutting his teeth on countless open mics around the Bay Area, Matt started taking music (a little bit) more seriously when Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads offered to produce his first record. Since then, Matt has continued to churn out more songs than he can remember the words to, oversaturate the market with gigs (opening and/or touring with the likes of Mavis Staples, Wilco, Bob Weir, Jackie Greene, Melissa Etheridge and Blues Traveler, and collaborate with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T’s. With his band, Matt has played stages across the country including The Fillmore, The Troubadour, and Irving Plaza. Fresh off the release of his fourth and fifth LPs, Undertoad and Kintsugi, Matt is already back in the studio, street-teaming with the best of them to bring the guitar gospel to the masses. Look for him on tour with Chuck Prophet in the Fall.

Matt Jaffe’s new album Kintsugi comes out August 27th, 2021!
