Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I really enjoy blending different electro-pop styles to create uplifting EDM anthems. I am also a fan of the “dark pop” genre because I feel like it delivers a good amount of depth and intensity.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) A Canadian singer named Amanda Marshall is a big inspiration of mine because her vocals are so raw and strong and I think it’s so profound for artists to not hold back when they are sharing their music with others. I am also constantly inspired by theatrical performances, as I remember going to musicals when I was younger and just being in awe of the strong passion and feeling that the actors put into their work. Seeing the vibrant combination of dance, singing and expression just hit me and grew this deep appreciation for the ability to convey various emotions on stage.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Must Be.”

A) Sometimes love can come to you unexpectedly. I wrote this song after thinking back in awe at how suddenly the emotions can come to you. It just changes everything from night to day. Suddenly, everything that you once saw as dull and grey is now beaming and bursting with light and that’s because this startling feeling of love has popped into your life. This song represents that extra boost in your stride and the never-ending smile you get on your face due to the elated feelings of love.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I hope they know that this song is not only talking about love in the relationship sense. It can be the love that you get through the birth of a child or by accomplishing something that you never thought was possible. It’s about that innate sense of joy that you feel just comes effortlessly to you, which to me is the sign of true love.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I wanted this video to have fun animations throughout it to represent that excitement that goes on in your head when your imagining all the wonderful things that can come from love. It’s like your whole self is bursting with creativity with how much it inspires you and takes you to another world.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) For me, it happens very organically because it has to first begin with something I am going through or inspired by, be it a positive or more difficult circumstance. I can’t really force myself to create a song without being driven by anything, so whenever a spark of inspiration comes by I make sure to work on it to shape it into something tangible! Sometimes if a catchy melody or idea pops into my head at the most random moment, I record a bit of it on my phone so that I can go back to it later without losing it. Once that main structure of the song is complete, I use my software program and MIDI keyboard at home to lay out its components and then send the demo to the producer I’m collaborating with to professionally record it. It’s so awesome hearing all the parts gradually come together.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I think it’s fascinating to get involved in the production side of the music. I usually sit side-by-side with my producer as we are listening to the song as it’s coming together and I may recommend certain tweaks to the instruments in the song or provide suggestions for another element that I would like to hear in the song.

Q) What are some themes you explore on your EP Palette

A) Some themes for this EP would include authenticity and celebration. With this EP Palette, I hope to create an expression of music that people can visualize and evoke different feelings from just as a painting would. I see sound as having the ability to express feelings and connect people through the different colors of tone as well. I am not one to create a song that is dull or meaningless to me, so that is why I want all of my work to feature splashes and pops of colors that sparks life and creativity to those who are listening.

Q) What songs on the EP hold a special place in your heart?

A) All of these songs hold a special place in my heart because they all represent a specific thing I was experiencing in life.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) I hope that they are able to feel the excitement and celebration that I was expressing through the songs. I hope they understand that same feeling of seeing the pages turn and anticipating that joy of the new colors coming into your life.

Q) You’ve won some incredible awards for your songwriting and production. What advice would you give to up and coming musicians?

A) I would tell aspiring musicians to not dread the tedious work so much. When you are pursuing music, you want to jump to the point when you are performing on stage all the time, but there are so many things that need to be done before you get to that point. I would say to develop strong practices and routines in order to keep growing as a musician.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I think Lady Gaga keeps raising the bar for all the ventures she’s involved in, but that should come as no surprise because she has such a killer work ethic. I would love to be able to work with her because she puts so much dedication into her projects. She truly loves to be involved in all sides of the industry and doesn’t let herself get comfortable with all the success she’s already achieved. She keeps coming back for more and she is a powerhouse when it comes to performance and entertainment.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Lizzo has been giving me so many good vibes from the energy that she spills into her songs. I’ve always been drawn to those artists who don’t hold back and just belt it out and she certainly has been giving the music world so much power and passion. I’m glad that there’s someone like her sharing her voice on the radio.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think it helps them see what goes on behind the music and my journey to creating a song. It also helps me to express my gratitude for their continued support along the way. It’s all about engaging with your audience to tell them your true story and who you really are.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I am so thankful for them supporting my passion. It really warms my heart to see them sharing my music, something that I wrote as a personal form of expression. It means a lot that they connect with what I am creating and it’s a great encouragement to continue being myself and sharing what moves me.
