Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Rising Tide.”

A) “Rising Tide” is a song about facing the desperate reality of a wave of political backlash to basic human rights, a wave which we may not be alive to see the crest of. However, I want to remind listeners, myself included, there’s a better way to end this story.

Q) Please tell us some themes you explore on your new LP Loverboy Molotov.

A) Loverboy Molotov is about politics, religion and sexuality. I want to explore both the confluences and conflicts that arise, and the way those combinations have come to influence art, culture, and language.

Q) The record also features three cover songs. How did you decide which songs you wanted to cover and what kind of memories do each evoke for you?

A) I wanted to cover three songs that brought together those three main themes and felt aesthetically cohesive with the rest of the songs.

Q) What do you hope lingers with listeners who explore your music on Loverboy Molotov?

A) I want listeners to come away with a desire to organize and a sense of hope, because the only thing that can satiate us in dark times is love: whether sexual, platonic or communal.

Q) With our current political climate so volatile, how do you suggest people get involved and do their part to get involved?

A) Join your local mutual aid organization or call one up and ask for tips. Get together with neighbors and create a network because the next crisis is around the corner.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) If Kate Bush won’t leave her castle for me, then Anthony Gonzalez of M83, Deftones or Martin Gore.
