Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Indie pop rock with acoustic guitar.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Taylor Swift, Kate Nash, Little Comets, The Vaccines.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Yesterday.”

A) I suppose it’s a pretty broad yet universally relatable subject. I guess that’s what makes it easy to connect to. It’s about when a point in a very one-sided relationship when I realized I could do better and move on.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video basically tells the story in a much cooler way. It’s about a similar kind of one-sided relationship. It shows how two people can be right next to each other but still distant.

Q) Your other song “Whole of Me” has become a fast fan favorite. What makes this song such a standout?

A) This is the rawest song I’ve ever written. I kept the production true and simple to the way I wrote it. Every line is special to me.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I definitely do. “Whole of Me” is the only song I’ve written where I’ve started with the lyrics. I find it much easier to lyric an already existing melody.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I have a lot of vocal input, but I can’t really produce so it’s more just me verbally stating ideas. I like to have an input in everything, especially the structuring and arrangement.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Natalie Shay performance?

A) Lots of energy, hair flicking and stomping. I like to think that my live performances of my songs sound like the recordings.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) When I have the right team and backing then yes. Until then, more singles. [wink]

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) My favorite place to perform is the Bedford in Balham. It’s such a beautiful place and has recently been refurbished and it’s even more amazing now. It’s where I played one of my first ever gigs in December 2012. I love it so much.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’ve always said I’d love to collaborate with Gary Lightbody who is the lead singer of Snow Patrol. He’s incredible.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) The Vaccines – Combat Sports. They were the first band I ever got into. I love seeing them play live and every song is a banger.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I love social media. Without it, I’m not sure what I’d do.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you for all your support and please stay tuned!!
