Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would say it’s pop with a hint of funk groove.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I grew up listening to Evanescence, Cher and Lady Gaga.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Boys Like You.”

A) Well, every single I write comes from my own experiences or something I’m going through. Clearly, this one is inspired by a bad boy. I would always question myself – ‘why do I go for these types of bad boys?’ But, then again, they’re my type of love drug and muse. One minute I’m done, then there I go back again!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) A lot of my fans say they connect to my lyrics, but also the bass guitar is what makes the single groove. I think that’s what really makes people really feel it.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video shows my innocence with the roses at the beginning, and then shows me getting messed up into his bad boy world where I transform into his ‘bad’ lifestyle. I think that happens a lot in relationships, where one day we just realize: ‘What am I doing? I’m losing myself.’

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My writing process is always different. Sometimes I have poetry that I’ve written and I start writing melodies to the lyrics. Other times I’ll come in with a melody and we start building around it.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’ll start with piano chords and work with producers from there on. But I’m definitely there during the whole process. I’m very hands on with my art.

Q) What is one piece of advice that music mentor Poet Name Life of the Black Eyed Peas gave you that you’ve taken to heart?

A) Never change and always stay true to myself.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Novul performance?

A) Depends on the show. I can have intimate sets with a drummer and DJ or I’ll have four to six dancers with me for a whole choreographed set with crazy amazing costumes!

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) Right now I’m just focusing on single releases.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I’d have to say when I performed in New York City for Pride, the crowd was eight blocks long and everyone was jumping and singing my songs! Such a high of love!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’d love to collaborate with this new rapper called NF!! He’s got this amazing dark edge to his music/sound and I think we could make some dope music together.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Currently I’m listening to the A Star Is Born. I love how it’s all recorded live – you can hear every emotion and it’s so raw sounding.

Q) As a fierce supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, why is this such an important cause for you?

A) I’ve always been connected to the LGBT+ community. My first Pride event I saw was the Toronto Pride parade when I was fourteen years old and I just felt this warm love. I was hooked with supporting love. There is no right or wrong kind of love to me.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s so important because I can do a Live video on my social media and talk with my fans directly. It’s also very instant to connect with fans when sharing my art and everyday life.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you too my Novulties who have always been there supporting me! As an independent artist it means a lot when I see my fans listening to my music! So, thank you for being a part of my story!
