Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Heartfelt, raw and rough around the edges.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Bon Iver, Frank Ocean and James Morrison’s first album is the sole reason I started writing songs.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “The Least That I Could Do.”

A) I basically went to the studio on a Saturday with my friend, he played the guitar riff and I was instantly like, “WHAT IS THAT?!” In my book I’d written the line “the least that I would do, is die for you” and something just clicked. I started singing ideas and we wrote the song super quick. I was thinking about my mum and how much people sacrifice for the ones they love. We knew it was special straight away.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think that everyone has that one person in their life that they would do absolutely anything for. Plus, a big, punchy chorus is always fun to sing along to.

Q) You have said this song is easily your favorite song you’ve ever written. What makes it so special to you?

A) It was actually the first time I wrote a song that I wanted to hide away and make sure no one else would sing. I think this was probably the spark that started Plested as an artist.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I always say that every song has a different process! But I do tend to start with a lyric, a line or a subject. This just helps me to set a foundation of where I want the message of the song to land. Then I tend to grab a guitar and start sketching out melodies.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I am a nightmare with buttons and I break pretty much everything I touch. So, I’m more of a ‘sit on the sofa and tell my friends what I want it to sound like’ type of producer.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Plested performance?

A) A lot of honesty. My songs really do come from the heart and they’re mostly a diary of my life and emotions. So, I like to explain where certain songs came from! I can make mistakes sometimes (I’m very forgetful), but my fans always help me out when I’m stuck on a lyric [laughs] — but I love keeping it real and honest.

Q) When can fans expect an EP or a full album?

A) 2020 I’ve got something in the works, but I can’t say too much…

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I recently played my first headline tour and every city was mind blowing. I do have a special place in my heart for Amsterdam. They always show up for a good time and sing super loud!!!

Q) You’ve worked with The Chainsmokers, Lewis Capaldi and Kygo. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Yes! I’m a lucky guy! I’ve been working with a lot more artists through 2019, but one thing I haven’t done yet is get involved with rap music. I think it could be amazing.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) The new Maisie Peters EP and Dermot Kennedy album have been on repeat the whole winter. First, they’re mates, but like me they really care about the quality of their lyrics! Right up my street!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I guess social media is a huge thing in music today. Being an artist now comes with a wide-open door for people to see your day to day business and that has its pros and cons. But I do think it allows an amazing conversation to be had. I always love to get my fans opinions on my music and show locations. Their opinion matters most to me really.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) It’s obvious, but I want them to know how much they’ve meant to me this year! It’s been an emotional one and I don’t really see it as “me and my fans.” We’re more of a team, I’ve got their back and they’ve got mine. So, a MASSIVE thank you is in order.
