Q) How would you describe your sound?

Gabriel Connor: I would say it’s explosive heavy rock. Those are a few words that first come to mind when I’m asked that question. It’s also melodic and dark at times. We don’t go for music styles as much as we go for the vibe and the true attitude of Rock N’ Roll.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Gabriel Connor: We are influenced by bands like KISS, Iron Maiden, Ghost and Guns N’ Roses to name a few.

Q) Guitarist Luis Kalil has joined the band. How does he add to your dynamic of Red Devil Vortex?

Gabriel Connor: He not only is an amazing guitarist, but he also adds to the songwriting. We’ve been writing the songs for the next record during this whole year, and we have a really good chemistry.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Alive.”

Gabriel Connor: “Alive” came about in rehearsals with the main riff idea and the song wrote itself around that. We were looking for something energetic and singing about feeling alive matches that energy, so I’d say the lyrics are about embracing who you are, the good the bad and the ugly, victories and mistakes, whatever it is that you go through and owning it, moving forward and being proud of who you are.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Gabriel Connor: I think it’s a great song to rock out to and scream along that you feel alive. I think it has that kind of uplifting energy that people feel that is hard to describe in words.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

Gabriel Connor: We decided for a band performance video to display the energy of the band, and we also released single band member videos, enhancing the specific instrument on each video so fans can have a more detailed listening experience with what each member is playing.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Gabriel Connor: It depends. It could start anywhere, maybe with a lyric idea or a chorus idea or even a sentence I read somewhere. We also have songs that are fully instrumental before we include lyrics.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

Gabriel Connor: A lot in every aspect, even when working with other people. I like to contribute as much as I can and make sure the band is consistent and going in the right direction.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

Gabriel Connor: Yes. We’re about to announce the release of our second EP Dark Secrets and we’re currently working on material for a third record.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Gabriel Connor: The Whisky A Go Go is one of my favorite places to play in LA, also the Lucky Strike Live. The band has history with those venues.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Gabriel Connor: It would be great to collaborate with anybody from our favorite bands I mentioned before and other artists like Corey Taylor, Zakk Wylde, Chad Gray or Tobias Forge.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Gabriel Connor: Lately I’ve been revisiting some of my favorite records from the past and I’ve been listening a lot to “Book Of Shadows” by Zakk Wylde. I also really like the new Beartooth album.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Gabriel Connor: It’s a great tool for the communication between band and audience specially post pandemic to spread your music and have ways to fans find you, but I also believe the real connection happens in real life, in a live show experiencing it right in front of you. Live music has that kind of moving energy that connects us in a way we just can’t describe. Nothing beats the shows but if social media can bring more people to the party, then that’s great!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Gabriel Connor: Thank you for enjoying our music and supporting what we do with Red Devil Vortex. We can’t wait to share with you the new material we’ve been working on and see you on the road. Don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list and stay tuned to everything RDV at www.reddevilvortex.com. Thank you!
