Sahara Garey – Beauty and the Bee

By  |

Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?

A) Right now, the current project I am working on is to promote my recent film Akeelah and The Bee.

Q) Please tell us about the premise of Akeelah and The Bee and about your character.

A) The premise of the movie is about a young girl and her struggles with how smart she is, despite the environment around her. It’s not just about a spelling bee, but it’s about her family, her struggles and her surroundings. My character, Georgia, is very smart, crazy and fashionable. She is very encouraging toward Akeelah and is the person that pushes Akeelah to join the spelling bee in the first place.

Q) What made you want to be a part of the film?

A) I read the script and thought it was so wonderful. I read the script six months before I even decided to do the movie.

Q) What was it like working with Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburn?

A) It was so much fun! Laurence Fishburn was really laid back and cool. Angela Bassett was so much fun! We were on the set and she’d fall asleep on my shoulder when she was tired, or we would just have a nice long conversation. She’s very nice!

Q) Why should viewers take the time to see the movie?

A) It’s a very encouraging and inspiring film about not letting anyone stop you from living up to your potential. It can really help and it’s a really great movie!

Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming?

A) I would have to say that just hanging out on the set with Angela Bassett was memorable because she was so fun! We would just sit there every morning in the makeup trailer and we’d just talk. She’d play with my hair or we’d just spend time together hanging out. It was really cool!

Q) What has been your favorite project to work on?

A) My favorite project would be working on the show “The Sheild.” I played the role of a really bad girl named Marla and she decided to cut a baby out of a woman’s stomach. She wanted to save the baby, but she accidentally killed him. It was a very intense role for me because it was such a departure for me since it was so dramatic. It was such an intense moment to have to cut a baby out of someone’ s stomach as a child and to have to deal with that pressure of killing the baby and the mother. It was something that I never thought I’d do at such an early age.

Q) Who would you most like to work with in the future and why them?

A) I would really like to work with Angelina Jolie because she does some of the most amazing characters. They are all so fun and she’s always doing action oriented characters. I’ve always wanted to work in that kind of environment.

Q) What do you do in your spare time?

A) In my spare time, I love to go shopping and I love to play with my new puppy. I also like to talk to my new boyfriend on the computer, all the time.

Q) What is your latest obsession? A book? A sport? A band? A movie?

A) I really like to sit down and listen to my music. I just got the new Mariah Carey CD, even though I know I’m late, I like to just sit down and listen to songs over and over.

Q) Now that it is 2006, what are you most looking forward to this year?

A) I am not really looking forward to one thing in particular. I just really want to get through the year with smooth sailing and do really exciting things and continue to grow as an actress.
