Q) What have you recently been working on?

A) I’ve just been working on the song “Somebody Like Me,” which is about knowing someone so well…You’re the person they need, but they don’t know it yet. So, you’re just like, “Oh, well, you need someone like me.” It also has a lot of that very confident and empowering vibe to it. It’s very groovy and I’m hoping people like it. We based the video off that – women empowerment, accepting yourself and feeling great about being a woman.

Q) Is that what you think really allows fans to connect with it?

A) I think so. All my younger girl fans have really liked the message. They have been commenting, “Oh wow! This message just made the song. Thank you for bringing this message to us. We really appreciate it.” So, yeah, I think they did receive the message very well. That’s important to me.

Q) How does the video play into that message?

A) Well, the video starts off by going to a party and this boy there…They had a situation and then I get upset. I go back to my house and then all of a sudden, I start envisioning all of these things that I can do like being a nurse, a cop, etc. I start envisioning that. Then, all of a sudden, I become this super heroine and start saving all of these people on the street. I go back to the party and I save the same boy from a fight he got into. It’s all about that women empowerment. I’m a super heroine saving the day!

Q) What is your typical writing process for creating music?

A) Well, usually what I like doing is locking myself in a room – whether it’s the studio or my room. [laughs] I just like being all by myself. Then, I’m like, “So, what’s going on in my life? What do I want to talk about?” That’s usually how it happens. I just start writing my feelings down on paper and that’s how my songs come about.

Q) How much of a say do you have in the production aspect of your music?

A) Yeah, I always like to decide what direction I want to take my music in. For example, my producer will say, “Do you like this beat?” I’ll say, “Yeah. But can we add this beat to it or can we do this to it?” Yeah, I always have a say in how my production is made and also the style I want to sing. Maybe someday I’ll say, “I want to do this kind of R&B vibe. Or, today I want to do more of a Latin vibe.”

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) That’s a hard one. I really admire Rosalia. I love the energy she has with her music and her presence is very strong. I honestly would love to do something with her in the future and learn something off of her. I think that would be amazing. Also, I really like Carlos Santana. I just really admire that he really puts himself into the music. I’d love to collaborate with these artists in the future.

Q) Your album is set to be released in September. What are some themes you will be exploring on it?

A) I do have an album coming out in September. I’m very, very excited for this album because it’s very different. Every song on the album is completely different. Everyone who listens to it has a different favorite. So, when we had to decide the single it is so difficult because we never know which one to pick. I worked very hard on this album and, honestly, I can’t wait for everyone to listen to it.

Q) How do you shake off a long day in the studio?

A) I feel music is always there for me when I’m stressed or have something big coming up. I always have my studio there to just go and relieve stress. I feel like music is relieving stress when I’m producing or playing my ukulele, practicing guitar or piano. It’s just a really good place that I have to go whenever I need it. Music is always there.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from your music?

A) Well, with my music, I think the main goal is…I feel like I want people to get something off my music – feel something. I want people to feel something when they listen to my music. Whether that is them getting inspired or feeling sad – just some type of emotion. I feel like when you listen to music and something reflects off that you get something from it, it’s the best feeling in the world. And I really want the songs to do that. For me, they are very few songs that actually make me feel some type of way. If I can do this with my music, I’d feel accomplished.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think social media is an important part of being an artist because it’s a platform where people just enter your world and I feel like that’s where they get to know you a little more. It’s also a great platform to spread messages. If someone is having a bad day and maybe you put something on your social media that is motivating or inspiring maybe that reflects on them too. I think that’s really important. It’s a great platform to send positive messages out to people.

Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure we share with our readers?

A) I’d like them to stay tuned. I’d be very grateful if they could just stay tuned and keep up with what I’m doing. I’m working really hard and I appreciate their support. I know they are going to love it. This is for my fans. This is for all of the music listeners. Just stay tuned and I’m very excited for you guys to listen to this.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) Honestly, I just say thank you. Thank you for everything. It’s so nice to have people behind you that support you and are just always there for you. It’s amazing to feel that support and I really appreciate that. I wouldn’t trade it for anything on this planet, in the world. So, thank you guys and I’ll be eternally grateful for that.
