A possessed Jace Herondale (Dominic Sherwood) visits Lilith (Anna Hopkins), who asks where Morgan Young (Genevieve Kang) is. Jace informs her that the shadowhunters rescued her from him, and Lilith slaps Jace. She warns him that the shadowhunters will be able to track her, and Jace assures her he won’t let it happen. Lilith details her relationship with Jonathan, and orders Jace to bring her thirty-three disciples to resurrect Jonathan. Once he is resurrected, Lilith promises to kill Jace like he killed Jonathan. She asks him to take care of the girl and he walks to the Institute.

Jace ignores a shadowhunter as he tries to talk to him, but Clary Fairchild (Katherine McNamara) snaps him out of his possessed state. She asks him where he’s been, but he admits he has no idea. He tells her that last thing he remembers is fighting Jonathan, but Clary tells him that the Owl isn’t Jonathan and assures him that Jonathan is dead. Clary asks what’s gotten into him, and Jace lies that he’s fine. She sees through him, and insists they need to tell the others about her wish. Jace warns her of the dangers, but Clary declares that she won’t lose him again. He kisses her and insists that he just needs sleep.

Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) attempts to ask Morgan questions about her possession, but she insists on getting to a person named Sarah and lunges at him. Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) checks on Alec and tells him that Sarah is Morgan’s twin sister. She tells him that this possession is unusual because Morgan’s cells are now demonic.

Maia Roberts (Alisha Wainwright) confronts Luke Garroway (Isaiah Mustafa) about kicking Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende) out of the warehouse. Luke tells her that it wasn’t an easy decision, reminding her that Simon hurt a pack member. Maia reminds him that the pack member attacked Simon, and tells him that the pack should stop acting prejudiced towards Simon. Luke tells her that he is up against thousands of years of hatred between vampires and werewolves, and Maia yells that they should try to change bigoted behavior and accuses Luke of abandoning Simon.

Heidi McKenzie (Tessa Mossey) goes to a blood donations truck. Leo (Jesse Camacho) asks if she’s there to donate, but she replies that she’s there to take. He gives her a couple of bags, and is alarmed when she drinks the bags. Heidi tells him that she’s hungry and he runs away. She uses her enhanced speed to block him and attacks him.

A parking patrolman (Jamaal Grant) wakes up Simon as he sleeps in his van and orders him to move. He calls Clary, telling her that he can’t go back home and that he needs a new place. Clary suggests that he move into the Institute, but he insists that Alec wouldn’t want to turn it into a B&B. As he hangs up, a biker crashes into a bunch of trashcans as he swerves to avoid Simon. Simon checks on him, and he insists that he’s fine. He mentions that he’ll have to walk now that his bike is broken, and introduces himself as Kyle (Chai Hansen) after Simon offers him a ride.

Alec tells Clary that he needs her and Jace to investigate the blood donations truck, but she tells him that Jace needs sleep. He questions if the problem is more than sleep and asks her about his disappearing parabatai rune. She lies that she doesn’t know, but he urges her to tell him anything serious about Jace. Simon carries Kyle’s bike up to his apartment and is impressed by the guitar sitting inside. He declares that the apartment is awesome, and Kyle mentions that his roommate recently moved out. Simon admits that he’s looking for a place, but admits that he prefers a place to himself. Kyle tells him about all of the perks of the apartment, and Simon is impressed.

Alec checks on Jace, who asks about his next assignment. Jace insists he’s fine, but Alec asks him why he pulled security footage of him entering the Institute. Alec insists that he’s looking out for him, and Jace lies that he wanted to test the cameras. Alec expresses his concern for Jace due to his mother’s suicide and history of mental illness. Jace accuses him of making up problems that don’t exist, and yells at him that he’s been working hard on the case.

As they investigate the blood donations truck, Isabelle asks Clary if Jace is okay. Clary insists that Jace needs rest, and Isabelle is frustrated about the mundane that keeps calling her. Clary argues that she wouldn’t have given him her number if she wasn’t somewhat interested, but Isabelle replies that shadowhunters don’t date mundanes. They find a piece of Leo’s lab jacket, and Clary questions why there isn’t a body. Isabelle is unable to get a tracking signal, and assumes that Leo must be dead.

Maia can’t believe that Simon isn’t taking the apartment, but Simon argues that he doesn’t want to hurt Kyle with his mark. She urges him to take the apartment, as he isn’t going to get a better offer. Jace meets Luke and asks about his mother’s mental illness history. He tells him about her symptoms, and that the only thing that made her happy was his father. Luke tells Jace that his mother was an amazing person who helped create another amazing person.

Heidi goes to the warehouse looking for Simon, and goes through his things. Raphael Santiago (David Castro) pins Heidi to the wall and attempts to stake her. She attacks him and tranquilizes him in the struggle. Simon moves into the apartment, and Kyle tells him that he won’t need his mini-fridge. Simon explains that he is very particular about his food, and Kyle promises that he won’t touch it. Kyle asks Simon to let him know in advance when he has a date over, and tells him to make himself at home. Simon thanks him for his hospitality and notices that his bruises from the crash are gone.

Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) is concerned that Alec hasn’t eaten, but Alec explains that he’s concerned about Jace. He admits he doesn’t know how to help him, and Magnus urges him not to lose hope. Alec thanks him, and tells him about the Owl. Magnus is eager to offer his assistance, arguing that it would allow them to spend more time together. Alec thanks him, but is still concerned about Jace. Magnus assures him that they’ll get through this one step at a time, and Alec is appreciative.

Isabelle still believes that Leo is dead due to there being no tracking signal, but Clary encourages her to keep trying. Clary asks if she’ll be okay around the vampires, but Isabelle assures her she’ll be fine. After being asked if she’s still hung up on Raphael, Isabelle admits that she and Raphael shared a deep emotional connection and that they somehow fit together. They finally get a tracking signal, confirming that Leo is still alive.

On a rooftop, Raphael wakes up half-naked and chained with Heidi standing over him. He struggles, and Heidi monologues about her experience in becoming a vampire. She laughs as Raphael tries to lunge at her, and tells him that she felt lucky when he resurrected her. However, she quickly found out that Raphael brought her back to be his guinea pig. Raphael attempts to apologize, but Heidi tells him that even scum gets their day in the sun.

Jace stands over a bridge and rips his mother’s necklace off of him. Lilith confronts Jace about not taking care of Morgan, but he has no idea what she’s talking about. She possesses him, and asks him what broke him free of her control. The possessed Jace declares that it’s Clary, as his love for her is stronger than Lilith’s control. Lilith tells him that’s the reason why she’s been torturing him with dreams of Jonathan killing Clary, and asks where Clary is. Jace tells her that Clary is on assignment, and Lilith promises that his love for her will soon be stronger than for Clary. She promises to take care of Clary before ordering him to take care of Morgan.

Raphael struggles against the chains as the sun starts to rise. He pleads with Heidi, explaining that his experiments were to help all of them walk in the daylight. Heidi refuses to accept his apology and takes his phone. Raphael promises to help her find family among the vampires if she lets him go, but she replies that family isn’t worth it. He reminds her that she would be dead without him, but she tells him that she killed and turned a mundane.

Clary and Isabelle follow the tracking signal, and Clary’s dagger starts to glow during their investigation. Leo startles them and advances on them. Isabelle asks where the vampire that killed him is, and Clary insists that they don’t want to kill him. Leo refuses to answer and attacks them. Isabelle gets tossed in the struggle, but she gets up and pulls Leo off Clary with her whip. Clary kills him, and Isabelle compliments her work.

As Raphael starts to burn in the sun, Clary and Isabelle hear his screams and run towards the roof. They kick down the barricaded door and free Raphael from his restraints. Pulling him out of the sun, Isabelle asks what happened. Raphael tells them that he was tracking the vampire when she got the upper hand, but lies that he doesn’t know who she was.

Still possessed, Jace gets into the Institute elevator and disables the security cameras. The Owl approaches Morgan and says an incantation that throws her backwards, knocking her out. As he leaves, the security cameras come back on. Magnus, Alec, and Clary check on Morgan, and Alec is horrified when they find her lifeless body. Magnus revives her with his magic and she wakes up. He determines that she is free of demonic possession, and Morgan asks where she is. Alec assures her that she’s all right.

Raphael tries to hide evidence of his experiments on Heidi, but Isabelle approaches him and asks if he’s covering his tracks. She tells him that Heidi’s method of killing him was too specific to not be motivated by revenge. Isabelle asks how he could do this, and he explains that the experiments were to become a daylighter. He tells her that he wanted to be able to watch the sunrise with Rosa, but Isabelle calls him out for using Heidi for his own personal gain. Isabelle tells him that she won’t report him to the clave on the condition that he leaves the city.

Simon and Kyle play video games, but Kyle leaves to take a call. Kyle talks to Luke, who admits that he didn’t like the way things ended with him and Simon the other day. Luke tells him he wants to visit, but Kyle tells him to let him do his job, declaring that Simon belongs to his group now. Jace wakes up, clutching his mother’s necklace in his hands. Clary checks on him and sees how distraught he is. Jace admits that he doesn’t know how he got to the Institute. He confesses that he might be losing his mind, and Clary embraces him. Magnus answers the door to find Lilith asking for help with a problem, and Magnus tells her to come inside.
