STAR – Thirty Days to Famous

“Ever since Star was little, she believed her name was who she was, but I told her ‘Fame is a trap,'” Carlotta (Queen Latifah) says while Star (Jude Demorest), Alex (Ryan Destiny) and Simone (Brittany O’Grady) walk confidently all glamorously dressed up.

EARLIER

Carlotta is at her salon congratulating Miss Bruce (Miss Lawrence) for having done everything as legally requested (remember when she was selling drugs at Carlotta’s salon?). So, now she has her license back and is able to do hair again. She gives her a new chair as a welcoming to the salon and as expected Miss Bruce is happier than ever. Star walks in, asking if somebody has seen her other shoe. Derek (Quincy Brown) is there too waiting for his turn to be attended. Alex is seen somewhere in the room as well. Simone returns from the detainment center where she was visiting Angel (Evan Ross) looking kind of sad and discouraged. The guy’s trial will be held within a couple of weeks and they all expect it turns out the best for him. In a way to cheer the mood up, Carlotta announces that Sound House has decided Noah (Luke James) will co-headline the tour with Gigi (Keke Palmer) and Take Three will be the opening act. The girls jump up and down out of excitement and congratulate each other until Miss Bruce stops them saying there is a track on the radio that seems to be performed by Take Three. Everyone in the room gets silent and then the song Star has recorded in front of Maurice (Lance Gross) some days ago resounds around the place. Simone is annoyed that her sister was insulting her and Angel. The blonde girl can’t take it anymore, so she decides to start to runaway when Alex stops her. Star tries to excuse herself for the song, but Alex just slaps her. Star slaps her back and so the fight starts.

Release album party is on. This brings us back to the beginning of the episode where the girls walk all dolled up towards the red carpet waiting for them to walk through. Carlotta reminds them that tonight is all about Take Three. Alex and Star share a small argument before the three of them step in front of the press that have been excitedly waiting for them to show up. In the wall behind them, a big cover album picture of Take Three has been placed where the girls pose and smile seizing their moment.

30 DAYS TO GO

DAY 1

Gigi is in the middle of her press presentation of her tour while Noah and Carlotta watch her from the back of the room. The woman scolds Noah for lying back when he was performing for “Hot Track” by saying he had only had one drink. After a while, Gigi walks towards him and tells him they should go and celebrate for the new tour they are about to start together and although he refuses at first, he ends up giving in.

Star walks into Maurice’s office looking mad where she questions him on releasing the track she recorded when she explicitly asked him not to. He explains that the song was a success, so he had to. He lets her know of the chances she may have from now on as a solo artist and challenges her to tell him, she doesn’t want it.

Carlotta, Miss Bruce and Cassie (Brandy Norwood) are at a recording studio where Jahil (Benjamin Bratt) had seemed to be living for the lasts months and pick up his stuffs. The woman still can’t believe he is gone and her sister tells her that she will find the one who killed him and take care of them.

Noah has been taking a mugshot looking all disheveled and wearing a purple eye. He is still visibly drunk while making a fool out of himself.

DAY 2

Noah is at the recording studio listening to some tracks when Carlota walks in and scolds him for his recent behavior. The argument between the two grows heated that it ends up with him firing Carlotta.

Charles Floyd (Richard Roundtree) arrives to Ayanna’s office just to let her know that the board at Floyd Entertainment wants to kick him out of his own company, but he is not giving up and will fight back.

DAY 6

The girls of Take Three are interviewed and asked about the story of how they met. Everyone seem to be having a good time until Star is asked about the “hot track” that she released. The situation seems to be managed quite well by the three of them, but then Star is told about the seven million downloads of her track and the mood immediately shifts as it is evident of how they haven’t solved anything entirely yet.

Ayanna and Maurice are having a conversation about the current situation with Take Three. Carlotta walks in and complains to Maurice for bailing Noah out of jail without telling her. The two begin to argue about things Maurice has been doing behind her back in order to take her artists away from her. Carlotta warns Ayanna that she may lose her artists as well and also tells Maurice to stop messing around with her or he will regret it.

Andy (Elijah Kelley) is getting a room ready for a meeting when Cassie walks in and reminds him of the money he still owes her. He says he’ll pay her pack and as an attempt to buy himself more time he starts kissing her. The woman says that if he keeps going like then maybe it’ll buy him a week before she goes and pays a visit to his parents at the coffee shop where they go every week to have brunch. Andy stops the kissing and starts looking worried. The woman smirks at him and walks away.

DAY 9

Star is having a photoshoot on her own when Simone walks in and drops one of the lights to the floor as an attempt to interrupt the session. Star tries to defend herself saying that Alex has been doing the same, so she deserves to have a chance as well. She also tells her that she is doing what she can to help her too, but Simone is tired of being seen as a broken child that needs to be protected. Star confesses that everything she is doing is also because of their mother and comes clean about what she did to her. Simone tells her that she shouldn’t be blaming herself since she was a kid.

Alex is working on Jackson’s (Matthew Noszka) track when Noah enters the room and he is annoyed when asked about Carlotta. Once again, they end up fighting making Noah leave.

Cotton (Amiyah Scott) meets with Carlotta and Cassie and confesses that she didn’t kill Omari (Justin Marcel McManus) and she believes that it was him who killed Jahil. Carlotta slaps her and says that she will find him and kill him, but is stopped by Cassie saying that she won’t let her ruin her life so she will do that for her. She asks her to leave town with Cotton and her kid in order to keep them safe. Cassie leaves the house and Cotton starts to cry and apologize, but Carlotta hugs her and comforts her.

DAY 15

Simone visits Angel and lets him know that she and his mother are gathering some money in order to hire a lawyer for him, but the man says that his hearing has moved up and he’s getting deported. Simone refuses to give up, but he asks her to move on since she has a whole life ahead of her. He says he loves her and then leaves the girl in tears on her own.

DAY 28

Simone hasn’t been able to leave bed in two weeks. Carlotta and Star try to cheer her up, but the girl is not interested in anything but to have Angel back on her life. She tells Carlotta that she doesn’t expect her to understand the situation since she has never loved anyone in the way she loves Angel, which causes the woman go mad throwing her out of bed. She asks her to get up and stop acting crazy confessing that she had someone she loved and has just buried him (referring to Jahil).

Alex and Noah are spending some time together. Alex suggests some ways they may relax together and when Noah reaches to her to kiss her, he moves his stuff and a flask drops to the floor. Alex gets mad at him and says that she can’t do for him what she did with her mother. She is not willing to go through that again and even though Noah swears he will be alright and change, she asks him to leave.

DAY 29

The girls are waiting for their call to go out and perform. They all seem worried and tense, but then Carlotta walks in the room and gives them a pep talk that puts them in a better mood. Take Three hits the stage in front of the cheering audience. The performance goes smoothly, but when they finish the crowd starts to chant “Ya’ll Know Me,” referring to Star’s single. The girl thanks them for downloading her track. Alex and Simone grow visibly uncomfortable until Alex can´t take it anymore and jumps over Star to start a fight.

Backstage Carlotta promises to Maurice, Ayanna and Lena (Tiffany Dupont) that she will gather the three girls and talk to them, but Lena tells them that Take Three is out of the tour due to the obvious reasons. The girls walk in and Maurice informs them that Star is the one that’s should be on tour since it has been proven that she is a “crowd pleaser.” Alex leaves the place looking completely angry and is followed by Simone who tells Star that she is no longer her family. Carlotta tries to keep the deal as it has been so far, but Ayanna tells her that the best choice is for Star to go solo.

Noah is standing in front of the mirror, slapping himself. Gigi walks in to check on him and he assures her that he is ready for their performance. She takes some cocaine and offers it to him and he immediately accepts it. The two of them give a successful performance, but Noah doesn’t look so well after they finish. He trips with his own feet and when some people are trying to help him he just pushes them away.

Alex meets with Derek and tells him how she feels about everything that has been happening in her life recently. She believes she’s acting just like her father did, but the man assures her she is not. She tries to kiss him, but he stops her and says that he has a girl now and walks away from her.

Andy is at Ayanna’s office trying to make a check in order to pay Cassie. Ayanna walks in and finds out what he was trying to do. She tries to call the police, but Andy makes her drop her phone in a drawer where a gun is displayed. They both try to grab the weapon and struggle for it as a shot has been heard and Ayanna collapses to the floor. Andy calls somebody who is revealed to be Carlotta. She immediately cleans Andy’s prints from the gun as soon as she arrives and tries to help Ayanna. She assures her that she will be alright, but the other woman confesses that she is pregnant with Jahil’s child.

DAY 30

Carlotta faces Andy about the reason he wanted to steal the money away from Ayanna. He tells her that he owes money to somebody and that the bullet that killed Jahil was meant for him. After a while, he ends up confessing that Cassie was the one who murdered the man.

Ayanna is in the middle of a meeting with a board when her father Charles arrives and asks her to stand out of her chair. She announces him that he is no longer part of the company and asks security to take him away. Right in that moment, Carlotta walks in the room and Ayanna presents her as the new head of Midtown Sound and the first thing she does in her new position is to fire Maurice.

Gigi and Noah are getting high in the man’s dressing room. Star walks in and Gigi leaves. The girl tries to knock some sense into Noah saying that consuming drugs won’t make him an artist, but just an addict. Later that night, she hits the stage and performs “I Bring Me” while flashes of her life with Alex and Simone begin to assault her. In the meantime, Simone is taking a cab to the airport and Alex is buying a ticket to New York. When her act is wrapped, Star finds herself alone in her dressing room looking sad and crying while removing her makeup. Derek arrives at the airport in a haste trying to buy a ticket for the last flight to New York, but he is informed that it is about to close so he screams that his girl is on that plane.

Star takes her bags and leaves while on tv it is announced that a plane has crashed in the Appalachian Mountains and all they know is that the flight had departure from Atlanta. Noah is standing at the top of a roof, stumbling on the edge. Carlotta pays a visit to Cassie and tells her that she has just sent Cotton and her son on a flight to New York. They discuss how Cotton had been through a rough year ending in her father’s death. Carlotta tells her that is even harder when the murderer is someone she loves. Cassie takes the hint and both women carefully take their own guns out until they are pointing at each other. Carlotta’s hand is shaking while Cassie confesses that she has always had her back. The scene closes on the guns and the screen fades to black and all we can hear is a shot been fired.

What a nerve wracking finally for Star season 2. Had Derek managed to make his way on the New York flight? Was Cotton a passenger too? Where Simone was headed to? Will Star be truly willing to pay the price of fame? Will Noah accomplish his objective? And lastly but not less important, who was the one that fired the gun, Cassie or Carlotta? Luckily, all of these questions will be answered in Season 3 of “Star.” ¡Hasta la próxima!
