Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I love the fusion of organic and raw mixed with electronic elements. Most of my music can be described like that.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Mariah Carey, Tracy Chapman, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Sia, Drake… Lately I’ve been loving Khalid, Sza, Kehlani, Post Malone and Cardi B. Honestly, the list goes on and on! There’s so much great talent out there! [smiles]

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Love is Love.”

A) “Love is Love” is about my personal journey when I recently opened up to my parents about my sexuality. I write a lot of my songs when I’m going through stuff as a way of getting some “free therapy.” [laughs] It really helps! This song isn’t just for queer people though…It’s a song about acceptance, no matter who you are, everyone in the universe has a right to love who they love. That’s what I want people to take away from the song.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I hope that the honesty behind the song is what will connect fans to it. I wanted to be really open about what I was going through with myself and my family while also just speaking about the message of acceptance and love!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) You’ll have to wait and see! We just shot it recently!

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) No, every time I write a song, it’s a different process. Sometimes I write with people and we start with a piano or guitar. Sometimes I go in with a voice note of a melody or lyric I’m working on. Sometimes I write to a chord progression! It’s always different!

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I am incredibly hands on with the writing, recording, mixing and production!

Q) What can fans expect from a live Starley performance?

A) Live vocals, raw energy (I’ll likely break a sweat after the first song). I also like to talk to the audience and just help them to get to know me.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) YES!! The album is coming really soon! And, new music is on its way even before the album drops!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I just started touring so I don’t have any favorite places just yet! Maybe ask me again after I’ve been touring for a few more years. [winks]

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Sia, DJ Snake or Post Malone

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been really into Cardi B and Post Malone lately. I love listening to them in the car and in the gym. They just give me so much energy!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think it’s great because it’s a direct connection between me and my fans! People DM me all the time and share their stories. It’s amazing!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the millions of people who’ve listened to my music! I’m truly blessed!
