Lena (Katie McGrath) is talking to Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and Mon-El (Chris Wood) about how using Sam’s (Odette Annable) DNA and injecting it into Reign could override her and bring Sam back. Reign, who wakes up when the needle is inserted, rejects the attempts as Lena tells the group that she needs more time. Reign agrees and tells Supergirl to give her more time because when she gets out she’s going to break Lena’s spine and crack the world in half. Lena pushes a button allowing a reflecting shield to cover Reign, explaining that she can’t see them. Supergirl attempts to see through it only to get a bounce back causing her eyes to hurt. She and Lena get into a little disagreement about how this could potentially hurt Kryptonians and how Lena didn’t tell her about it. Lena tells Supergirl that she will tell her if she makes Kryptonite again because she agreed she would, but with anything else she doesn’t have to because she doesn’t think about Supergirl when she creates it.

Kara is waiting for James (Mehcad Brooks) at Catco and confronts him about telling Lena that she was the one to ask him to break in. Kara says that Lena now has a problem with her. James is quick to deny it, saying that Lena couldn’t wait to see her today and how she was talking about her this morning. Kara tells him that Lena was excited to see Kara not Supergirl yet how she has a problem with Supergirl and she can’t explain anything because Lena doesn’t know she’s also Supergirl. Kara tells James that he should have had her back and when he tells her that it was important for him to tell Lena, Kara tells him that it was at her expense. James explains to Kara that he really likes Lena and that because he was open and honest with her she in return was open and honest with him. Kara looks him straight on and tells him that he knows why she can’t be honest with Lena – if Lena knew who she was then people might use it against her. She continues saying for the past two years she’s been lying to Lena when Lena herself has been opening open to her and that Lena’s mother was right when she said if Lena found out about who Kara really was she’d be devastated. Their meeting is cut short when Eve (Andrea Brooks) tries to stop a girl from going into the office but fails. The young lady asks if he’s James Olsen as she has come to him asking if he can get a book to Supergirl saying it was Thomas Coville’s (Chad Lowe) journal and that she thinks his followers are using it to make a bomb.

The girl, Tanya (Nesta Cooper), explains to Kara and James that she was saved by Supergirl and Coville sought her out to join his him. Since she wanted the miracle to mean something she was teaching him Kryptonian. She says that when Reign arrived Coville’s followers started making her translate his journal and what she read was like a recipe for explosives and that he vanished. When Kara asks where his followers are Tanya writes down where she ran away from and when Reign came he got word to them that they were worshiping the wrong God. James and Kara stop Tanya from leaving because she’ll be safe there, but when Kara goes to leave with the journal Tanya asks where she’s going. Kara tells her that she is also friends with Supergirl and that she is going to make sure she gets it, so they can stop whatever is about to happen. Alex (Chyler Leigh) arrives back at her apartment with helmet in hand telling Ruby (Emma Trembley) that if she thought of her as a badass before to just wait. When Ruby doesn’t want to go see the bike she just got, Alex tries her best to get her to open up but fails since Ruby says she just wants to be alone right now.

Mon-El and Supergirl arrive to the address Tanya wrote down. He tells her that he knows she can’t be completely honest with Lena, but she should go to her and tell her why she reacted the way she did and see if Lena understands. When they reach a door, they open it to find the symbol for Reign and find marks left leaving them wondering what kind of bomb they are making. At Catco, James is distracted by an upset Olivia (Sofia Vassilieva) whom he met at Coville’s meeting only for two others to take Tanya from the office. He gets inside the elevator and makes a quick change into Guardian to go after them. When he confronts Olivia, she shoots him in the head knocking his helmet off, revealing his identity to Tanya and the cops who come in thinking that James is the one harming the group. At the Catco garage, he and Tanya talk about how he is a superhero and how she never thought it would happen to Guardian that the cops would shoot at him.

At the DEO, J’onn (David Harewood) walks into the lockerroom to find Alex and notices the books she has. Alex explains to him how she’s trying to reach Ruby and how she lost her dad as a teenager and she thought she could relate. Instead, she is consulting books on grief and still nothing. J’onn tells her that he understands because of everything happening with his father and how he has researched a lot of things. Supergirl and Mon-El arrive at L-Corp and talk to Winn about the book and what they found at the warehouse. Winn tells them that they will have to go back to the DEO because Lena’s machines are working on overdrive. Supergirl tells Mon-El and Winn to go ahead because she wants to talk to Lena. Supergirl apologizes to Lena for how she’s been acting and hopes that it doesn’t affect their friendship; however, Lena tells her it won’t because they don’t have a friendship. As Supergirl tries again, Lena tells her that she doesn’t need to be friends as she has friends who wouldn’t go behind her back because of what her last name is and how they know she wouldn’t enter into a friendship with someone who has already breeched that trust.

J’onn and Alex take M’yrnn (Carl Lumbly) and Ruby to an amusement park so they can go to the arcade. As M’yrnn goes off about how he knows the arcade is some form of Martian thing, J’onn explains that this one is different. Alex tries to put her arm around Ruby as they break off into teams, but the girl shrugs her off and goes inside causing Alex to follow after her quickly. Supergirl arrives at Catco to find James with an ice pack to the head and Tanya explaining what happened. James tells Supergirl that it was Olivia who caused it and becomes confused when Tanya explains that Olivia was lost after she turned on Coville and kept visiting him in prison. Supergirl tells James that he should have called her, but Tanya says Guardian had it handled. Supergirl tells them that they found the place she told them about, but they were gone and they tried to make the bomb Tanya told James and Kara about; however, they failed and that they think someone may have died there handing Tanya a necklace. She informs James and Supergirl that it was her friend Liza. James’ phone goes off, which Supergirl knows something is wrong as he tosses her his phone to see an unknown number and video message telling him to give them Tanya and the book or National City will know he’s Guardian.

Tanya panics and tells them that she should go, but Supergirl and James are quick to stop saying there are three hours and they can find Coville’s followers before anything happens to James. Meanwhile, Ruby refuses to do anything. Alex sits down with her and tells her that she understands that Ruby misses her mom and that she knows she’s in pain. She pleads with Ruby to let her help. Ruby tells Alex that she’s not helping and that she just wants to go home. M’yrnn starts causing things to go crazy when Ruby asks if he’s okay. Alex tells her everything is going to be okay as they get him out of the arcade. At the DEO Mon-El, Supergirl and some agents go through security footage as Supergirl explains that she feels like it’s her fault. Supergirl is clearly upset about not being able to tell Lena who she truly is when Mon-El tells her that maybe not telling Lena the truth is the noble thing to do because she’s sacrificing her happiness. Winn comes running out telling them that he and Lena found something, when they get into the lab Lena tells Mon-El and Supergirl that it’s heavy metal not found on Earth. They discover what they were using was being used to make a new World Killer and that they could use the rock to reverse the affect on Reign and turn her back into Sam.

James and Tanya arrive at the DEO surprising Supergirl, who is quick to ask if there was another attack at Catco. James tells the group that with all the threats out there the DEO is the safest place for Tanya and that he’s holding a press conference to reveal who the Guardian is and it’s the best option. Lena goes after James and tells him she wants to stand beside him, he explains that it may not be a good idea and tells her a story about the first-time cops put handcuffs on him at the age of seven because he and his cousins were playing hide and seek and how they didn’t believe they were staying at the hotel because of the color of his skin. He tells her that being Guardian is the first time he’s been something other than the color of his skin. Tanya tells James that he is not going to give up who he is and that she wants to stand up and fight. Meanwhile at the arcade, J’onn deals with the manager and Alex goes to get the car leaving Ruby with M’yrnn. He starts telling her stories of Mars and what happened to his family. He explains to Ruby that faith kept him going and that he was like her. M’yrnn and Ruby go play Foosball and laughing much to Alex and J’onn surprise.

Tanya goes to meet with Olivia and the rest of Coville’s group while being monitored by Winn, Supergirl, James and everyone at the DEO. She soon gets into a van when Mon-El gets inside the van as well playing dumb to the whole situation. Winn is quick to point out they lost coms and tracking. Lena notes that the rock can let off a signal where they can trace it and Supergirl confirms that they can find a way to get there because of Mon-El. Tanya is translating the book as Mon-El is helping replace things needed to make the World Killer. Olivia pulls out the rock as Mon-El gets a signal across allowing Kara to hear and arrive as she and Olivia battle it out. As the group try to take Tanya we see Guardian arrive making the battle three too many. Supergirl touches the rock in Olivia’s hand causing pain and losing control of her powers for a minute. She pleads with Olivia telling her she understands what she’s going through. Olivia tries to get the rock from her hand, but it wouldn’t move. Supergirl yells out to Mon-El who tries to pull it from her hand telling Supergirl it wouldn’t budge. She tells Olivia that what she’s about to do is going to hurt and uses her heat vision on the rock allowing for Mon-El to pull it off as Supergirl quickly uses her freeze breath to calm the pain Olivia is feeling.

After the whole incident is over, James apologizes to Supergirl for the situation he put her in earlier with Lena and that there was a moment where he thought the mask was going to come off. He says that it felt freeing and that when the time comes on his own terms the mask will come off for good, but he understands that Supergirl can’t do that and that he wants her to know how much he appreciates everything she does and how much she sacrifices for her friends and family.

Alex and Ruby dye the tips of Ruby’s hair blue and Alex tells her that if the FBI ever stops working out she can become a hairdresser. Ruby apologizes for being so rude to Alex before and Alex apologizes for pushing her. She and Ruby then talk about M’yrnn and being sick when Ruby admits that she’s afraid what happened to Sam will happen to her. Alex tells her that she doesn’t know, but that what she does know is some of the smartest people on the planet are working to save her mom and that they love Ruby just the same. Lena and Winn tell J’onn, Supergirl and Mon-El that with a scan of the rock signatures they found where the rock is located. Mon-El tells everyone that he can go with Supergirl because he can handle the rock just fine when they are suddenly interrupted by Reign who broke the chains and the shield. Lena tells them that her body is becoming immune and that she can only keep Reign contained for two days at the most. Mon-El and Supergirl take off in J’onn’s ship to get the rock that can help turn Reign back into Sam.
