Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Colorful, Vibrant, Infectious, Wild, Energetic

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, Patti Smith

Q) Talk about the story behind your song “Pineapple Piñata.”

A) I wrote this for anyone going through a dark time. It’s about shaking out your depression and anxiety if even just for these few minutes. It’s hard to feel sad when you are jumping up and down and moving your body. There is something powerful in movement. You have the ability to transmute those negative feelings into something else. That’s what this song is. It’s a “leave it on the dance floor” song.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) It’s fun. It’s inviting. It’s inclusive. I had someone write me a message recently thanking me for making music that is fun. Everything in the world is so heavy right now and I think the song allows us to disconnect from that heaviness.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video was shot in Bombay Beach. The idea was that you can create and spread joy anywhere. That happiness comes from the internal not the external. Set in a post-apocalyptic environment, three people find each other and create their own world full of dance, laughter and joy.

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I like to come up with song titles or concepts first. Then, the lyrics and melody are usually written simultaneously. Each song is different, but in general that is my process.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I have a lot of hand in the production. I sit with my producers for days helping find sonic sounds or creating my own foley. It’s my favorite part. Production is endlessly creative.

Q) Your EP Vol. 2 came out on October 7th. How did you celebrate?

A) I have this ritual where I listen to my songs the night they come out. I listen to them really loud and dance around my room, and then I never listen to them again. I like to celebrate the song’s existence and then step away.

Q) What songs on Vol. 2 hold a special place in your heart and what makes them so significant to you?

A) This EP was the next evolution of my project, and it was fun exploring the themes and sonic soundscapes of this EP. I also got to work closely with some of my best friends, which was a blast. The EP represents a special time in my life where I was doing a lot of self-discovery and healing. This EP represents change to me personally.

Q) I loved that you partnered with the ACLU for the song “Boom Boom.” What makes this cause so close to your heart?

A) I wrote this song for my dad for pride month. My dad is gay, and I grew up with him and his partner of fifteen years. My parents were married and divorced when I was six years old. I know it was challenging for my dad to embrace his authentic self. I love him and wanted to write a song for him to show my love and support for him and anyone who’s gone through a similar journey. I want people to feel like they can embrace who they are. They are welcomed and loved for who they are.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from checking out this new EP?

A) I hope they walk away feeling uplifted, feeling empowered and feeling accepted.

Q) One of your previous singles before the EP, “Boom Boom,” was featured in an Old Navy commercial. What did that accomplishment mean to you?

A) It was huge. It was the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me. I still pinch myself about it. I’m very grateful.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I haven’t performed in over two years but did a live stream on Dec 1st! I hope to start playing live shows in 2022. I am really looking forward to playing these songs for a live audience and dancing with them!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Sofi Tukker, Channel Tres, Coolio, Remi Wolf, Lady Gaga. I mean, I can list a million! [laughs]

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been really digging Noga Erez. She’s incredible. I love her songwriting and the production is top notch.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I love engaging with my fans. I have the sweetest fans! Social media is a great tool to connect with them and I enjoy talking to them. I like to hear about their lives.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you!! I am forever grateful for the support.
