The episode opens with Raj (Kunal Nayyar) saying that it is their 40th anniversary of Halloween. He is referring to the movie, but Sheldon  (Jim Parsons) thinks he means the actual holiday and goes into the history and origin of it.

Leonard (Johnny Galecki) says that in the movie Michael Meyer’s mask in the movie was a Captain Kirk mask turned inside out. Sheldon now finds it interesting.

Amy (Mayim Bialik) asks if they are all dressing up for work. Howard (Simon Helberg) says that he says how often can they do it, causing Leonard to make fun of his dickie and belt buckle.

Penny (Kaley Cuoco) wonders why she and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) don’t dress up at their job. Bernie explains that it is because the last time it was done people took it too far, caused people to go into quarantine and anger the CDC.

Leonard suggests they have a party, making Penny reminisce over previous parties. Leonard doesn’t remember being invited to one and she tells him to not be awkward.

The next day Sheldon is at work dressed as Doc Martin when Howard walks up to him—dressed as Sheldon. He asks if Amy is going as Doc’s wife and Sheldon confirms it, not realizing Howard is dressed as him. He only thinks he changed his hair and tells him he looks good.

At lunch Leonard is dressed as Inspector Gadget and Raj is dressed as Ruth—or Kooth-Bader Ginsberg. The guys wonder how his fiancée feels about it and he says there are no secrets except the fact that he crocheted part of his costume.

Howard joins them and Raj says he is killing it, leading to them doing some courtroom jokes. Sheldon is confused and finds Howard being annoying. Leonard finally realizes Howard is dressed like him and thinks they are laughing at him, not with him.

Amy comes in dressed as Doc’s wife Clara. She sees Sheldon is no longer in his costume and asks him what is wrong. He tells her about Howard’s costume and how he now feels like a joke.

At the house Penny jokes that her costume is a failed actress turned career woman. Howard wonders what she will dress as, thinking it will be sexy. She wonders why women have to be sexy on Halloween. They then talk about their first kiss, but each have different memories. He thinks it was the Halloween party and she thinks it was his birthday.

Amy goes to Bernie’s to discuss Howard’s costume. It turns out that not only did Bernie know about it, but she also made it for Howard. She thinks it is hilarious, but Amy explains Sheldon got hurt. She thinks Howard should apologize while Bernie thinks he shouldn’t dish it out if he can’t take it. She points out that he even said that their daughter looked like Winston Churchill.

At the party Raj’s fiancee Anu (Rati Gupta) shows up. She is dressed up as the Constitution with the Bill of TIGHTS underneath.

Bert (Brian Posehn) starts to talk about his costume when Bernie interrupts to ask about Stuart’s (Kevin Sussmann) who is wearing stuff from Halley’s Let’s Pretend box, which he promises to return. Bert then says he is dressed like a famous geologist.

Howard and Bernie are dressed up like the leads from Mary Poppins. He promises to sweep her chimney and she promises to give him a spoonful of sugar.

Penny and Leonard are still on the topic of their first kiss. She finally says it was on Halloween, but he thinks she is saying that to shut him up.

Bert asks Anu and Raj about their arranged marriage and wonders if he can get in on it, making the conversation awkward.

Sheldon and Amy show up dressed as Howard and Bernadette. The real Howard and Bernadette are not happy and want them to change. Penny and Leonard agree while Anu and Raj allow it. Bert wonders if this is a good party and Stuart says it is.

On the way home Bernie and Howard are still upset. Howard is also concerned about the guacamole they ate. Bernie is more upset they made fun of how they looked and talked.

Leonard and Penny think the party was a success and finally admits their first kiss was on Halloween, but she was with Kurt and drunk so she picked his birthday because it had more meaning. They agree to make that their first kiss.

Stuart comes out of the bathroom and says the guacamole made him sick. He asks to crash there and they say he is always welcome. However, they lock him out when he goes to take out the garbage.

Sheldon and Amy talk about how this whole thing made Sheldon a better person. Howard comes up to them and says Bernadette is still upset and wants them to apologize. They argue that they are also owed an apology, causing Howard to use Star Wars to convince Sheldon to apologize.

Sheldon goes over to apologize to Bernie and she explains how she was made fun of her whole life. Sheldon can relate and they have bonding moment until he makes a crack about her height. She walks away with the watermelon Sheldon wanted.

The episode ends with the guys watching Halloween and Amy making Sheldon come home to get out of watching it. He wonders what took so long, but she just got his text.
