In the time vault Barry (Grant Gustin) tells Iris (Candice Patton) how he stared at the newspaper for years. He thought it was a guide at first, but then it became a sword hanging over his head. However, he thought he would always be looking for a way to come back to her. Iris immediately refutes his poor attitude and says if that article can change then that means they can still change the future. So, they need to figure out what to do first. He decides he’s going to go see the Crisis for himself.

Ramsey (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is buying another gun from a dealer. The man changes the price and turns to leave. Rosso grabs him but gets shoved to the ground. When the man pulls a gun on him, he holds up his arm that turns into a black mass that begins to attack the man.

Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) and Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) are walking up the stairwell to meet Kamilla’s (Victoria Park) at an art viewing. Before they go in Cisco uses a device to make Killer Frost’s voice sound like Caitlin’s. Cisco meets Kamilla and tells her who he brought with him. The only thing Frost can do is voice her dislike for the art as she walks around with Ralph. He tries to convince her to connect to the art. She insults Kamilla’s art and Kamilla gets upset saying that, “If this is how Caitlin’s other half is going to act, maybe she should skip the next show.”

Joe (Jesse L. Martin) gives Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) a case file on Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) who has metahuman abilities to control radio waves. She’s been in and out of Iron Heights since she was thirteen years old. Cecile thinks this will be an open and shut case. When she goes in to talk to the judge, she senses something from Allegra and decides to request bail for her. Allegra is shocked, but the judge grants her bail.

Barry has decided to run to the day after he vanishes. He and Iris are standing in the pipeline preparing for him to make the quick trip. Iris suggests telling the team because she doesn’t want him to go in there alone. He shows her a mobile Gideon (Morena Baccarin) unit that he built that he’s going to use so that he isn’t alone. They share a kiss and then he races off. While he’s running he comes into contact with something that causes him to fall and scrapes his leg.

Gideon tells Barry he’s been hit by anti-matter – it destroys positive matter on contact. He can’t get past it without additional assistance and, luckily, Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) is an expert in the field. So, Barry travels to Earth-3 where Jay tells him that the scratch could have wiped him out of existence if not for his speed healing. He tells Jay that he only traveled to see the future without him. Jay lets him know that he’s been studying the anti-matter for the past year and if he’s correct that all Earths could be in danger. Jay has a device that can send a speedsters’ mind past the anti-matter. Before they can start Jay’s wife, Joan (Michelle Harrison), enters the room. She looks exactly like Barry’s mother. Jay introduces the two.

Cecile briefs Iris and Kamilla on how Allegra got her powers. She was in a fight the night of the particle accelerator explosion and she was able to control radio waves because of where the explosion hit her. Cecile doesn’t think this incident was Allegra, but the evidence points to her. Ralph comes in agreeing with Cecile. He shows them the burn marks on the victim and they don’t match radio waves. Now, all they have to do is find the new evidence to support it.

Iris and Ralph go visit the eye witness again. When they get there the door is ajar and upon entrance they see Allegra standing over the witness’ body. Ralph tells her they just want to talk, but she gets spooked and splashes him with her radio waves in the face. He screams in pain and she runs out of the room. She doesn’t get far because Joe’s shoots her with a power dampening cuff.

Joan asks Barry if she reminds him of anyone from his earth and he stares admirably at her, saying someone very special. Jay joins them mentioning how he never thought he would settle down. They give Barry the helmet to begin the process. He goes under and begins to feel the pain as he sees S.T.A.R. Labs, Iris and his team all get obliterated before his eyes. He is seeing billions of timelines all at once. He even sees a timeline where he dies. They get the helmet off as Barry passes out.

Barry wakes to Joan reading a book. Barry’s nerves are on fire and he’s feeling ten times the amount of pain that a normal person would. He tells them that he saw “billions of possible futures, billions of deaths.” He says he felt it all and that The Monitor was right. He tells them he needs to go home to see Iris.

Allegra isn’t firing radio waves, but ultraviolet radiation. If not for his powers, Ralph would have died. Killer Frost is not bothered by it all and leaves the room. Iris realizes that Allegra may be able to control different radiation waves. Cecile leaves to go to the station.

Joe questions Allegra about why she was at the witness’ house. She tells him she was trying to prove her innocence because she wants to be a reporter and this was a way to get experience. She says she was trying to find out who killed the driver and the witness. Cecile tries to get a straight answer out of her, but she just asks for a lawyer. Cecile tells Joe that her powers are telling her that Allegra isn’t lying and that she knows who the real killer is. Joe tells her that she needs to stop doing public defender work and do her job. Joe states that they need to recognize that unlike facts feelings can be fallible. Cecile says she’s the only one that can prove her innocence. He mentions that it’s like she doesn’t want to be the DA. She says that he’s feeling like she has to choose, but Joe disagrees.

Jay and Joan have delivered Barry back to Iris and they’re at the loft. Joan mentions the way both Barry and Iris have starred at her. Iris confesses that she looks just like Barry’s mother. They leave Iris with Barry as they’re going to scan Earth-1 for any more signs of anti-matter. Iris says that all they need to do is find a way to stop it, but Barry thinks there is no way to stop it. The only time where they survive it is if he dies. Iris is still in disbelief and tells him that they control their destiny. Barry thinks that maybe this is the reason he was given powers. They have to accept this. Iris says, “The Barry she knows would never stop running. He would find another way to fight.”

Joe visits the loft in search of Iris. He tells Joe that he got hurt running a speed force experiment. He lets Barry take a look at the case. Joe asks him how he got hurt and Barry is hesitant to say. Barry tells him with tear-filled eyes that something is coming and he has to make a sacrifice but it feels like he’s giving up. Joe explains that the badges and the emblem are symbols of the strength that they’re charged with. It’s not a choice to die, but a show of resilience.

Cisco finds Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) in the lounge and asks her what she’s been doing besides helping without the black hole alerts. She’s been trying to replicate a picture and express herself but she’s struggling. She feels guilty about how Killer Frost treated Kamilla’s paintings.

Cecile visits Allegra again. Allegra tells her all the waves she sees when she doesn’t have the cuffs on. So, Cecile tells her that she has powers too and that she needs to know whatever it is that can help her be proven innocent. Allegra tells her that her cousin, Esperanza (Alexa Barajas), was also there the night of the explosion. Allegra wanted out of her gang and that is why she was in a fight that night. She had the same tattoo as her cousin, but Esperanza supposedly died that night. Cecile calls Ralph about Esperanza’s file. They found her in a vegetative state and was then taken out of custody by some unknown people. She never died. The lights at CCPD go out and Esperanza appears in disguise demanding to see Allegra. She shoots waves throughout the building and starts fighting the officers while Cecile and Allegra try to escape.

Iris and Ralph call Barry to alert him. Now that Esperanza can’t let anyone know she’s alive, she’s going after Allegra. Barry says he’s going down to the precinct. Allegra tries to talk to Esperanza,. Esperanza replies, “Esperanza died five years ago” and that she’s only Ultraviolet now. Barry flashes them out of the way and tries to run from the waves, but still gets hit by them. Gideon says she suggests a hasty retreat, but Barry remembers Joe’s words and runs full force at Allegra’s UV rays. He knocks her out and then falls to the ground afterwards.

Barry’s still recovering in the med bay. Ultraviolet may have been trained by a secret organization and now it’s on their list because they’re exploiting metas. Barry sees some abstract pictures hung around the room and Killer Frost tells him that she bought them and now she needs a lesson in personal finance. Cisco adds her picture to the bunch and they start to talk as Barry’s face turns from a smile to something sadly distant.

Cecile tells Joe that after this case she thinks she wants to become a defense attorney for metahumans. She sends Allegra to Iris to start her internship at The Citizen. The women welcome her to the team.

Jay tells Barry they will keep scanning the multiverse for any anti-matter before they get up to go. Barry and Iris see them off. Barry apologizes to her about the way he acted earlier, but she understands that he was scared and she was too. She tells him she knows he’s never going to give up and Barry replies that he isn’t choosing to die. He could never make the choice to leave her, but if his death is the only way to save the universe and her he’s willing to do that. So, they’re going to start by preparing the team for the Crisis and maybe a world without The Flash.

Rosso is studying the man she killed. He’s recording each step when the man begins to wake. When he turns around, the man hits him across the face.
