The episode opens with Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) putting a journal entry into Gideon’s database. She’s talking about how she’s afraid about her secret getting out to the people that she loves. As she does so, they show Nora, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) playing scrabble. She says that the longer she keeps the secret the more she feels like she’s hurting them. She completes the entry and has Gideon send it to Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh).

Barry is challenging Nora to the race of her life on ice skates, but Barry takes off and Nora’s left in the dust struggling to make it anywhere. Iris comes up behind her to help and teaches her how to do it better. While Nora skates off, Barry comes up to skate with Iris. He tells her how she’s being “such a mom” and Iris mentions how he set game night and skating up. Barry’s feeling more at ease now that they have a plan to stop Cicada (Chris Klein) by waking up Grace (Islie Hirvonen). Ralph (Hartley Sawyer), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), and Sherloque join them and Ralph mentions how the man across the hall from him at work died. At this news, Iris gets excited and says now she can get that workspace and turn her blog into a real newspaper. Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) gets an alert and says that his package has arrived so it’s time to go.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Sherloque unveils the memory machine– what they need to get into Grace’s mind to wake her up. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) joins them and asks how he got it from his earth. After explaining, Barry asks how they can use it to wake Grace up. Caitlin explains how Grace’s situation is a bit different so Sherloque shares how they need to go into Grace’s mind and lead her consciousness out of a neural nexus portal. He tells them to travel in pairs in order to be safe. He explains one of his experiences and how he could see his partners memories when he tried it before. They decide that Barry and Nora will be the ones to go into Grace’s memories the next day.

Cisco, Caitlin and Ralph are discussing their plans and Cisco mentions how he’s going to continue working on the cure. Ralph mentions needing Cisco to vibe someone with a tip on Cicada and Cisco agrees to help his friend out.

Nora asks Gideon how she can use the memory machine and not allow Barry to see her memories. There is no way she’ll be able to, but before she can leave Sherloque plants the transceiver disc on Grace’s monitor. Nora thinks this is her chance to go into Grace’s mind alone and make it back before anyone notices in order to protect her secret connection to Eobard. She quickly puts on the device and ends up at CCPD with Grace. She’s able to talk to Grace and manages to get her to go with her towards the portal, but before she can make it through she gets trapped.

She tells Grace they’re going to find a way out and Nora appeals to her by trying to tell her how she’s been in the same situation. She tries to get her to imagine what will happen when she’s out.

Iris is on the phone with a lawyer trying to pick out a name for her newspaper when Barry walks in. He asks about their conversation, but she says she just wants to focus on team flash and stopping Cicada. Before Barry can encourage her to talk more about the paper, his phone rings. Sherloque tells him what Nora did, so Barry and Iris rush down to the lab.

Once there, they ask why she went in alone and why she isn’t out yet. Since Grace is acting defensively, Nora is stuck inside. Iris immediately says that they need to go in to save their daughter.

Inside of Grace’s memories Nora searches for a portal but she can’t find one. Nora asks Grace to take her to another memory and she takes Nora to her house to see Uncle Orlin.

Cisco and Ralph have found someone that says they’ve seen Cicada in their bar. But when Cisco vibes a glass that he broke, they find out that the man is talking about a band named “Sickada.” They decide to stay for drinks.

Iris and Barry prepare to go into Grace’s mind to find Nora, but instead they end up in Nora’s childhood memories. After panicking for a moment, Iris realizes that if they get through a portal it will take them into Grace’s memories. They follow Nora to The Flash Museum located in S.T.A.R. Labs. Barry is fascinated with everything that they see as they walk around when Iris spots Nora. Iris mentions how when she was ten years old she wasn’t running away from home and the only reason Nora is doing so is because she’s running from something. They continue on to find the portal.

In Grace’s memories we see Grace and Orlin begin to sing a strange rhyme that allows Grace to use cuss words, but when Nora tries to leave Grace doesn’t budge. Nora notices a strange dollhouse, but when Grace mentions going to the fair Nora thinks that’s where the portal must be and asks her to take them there because it was her last memory.

Ralph’s trying to subliminally get Cisco to take a night off, but Cisco catches onto it and gets annoyed because Ralph lied to him. He gets up to leave.

Barry and Iris follow Nora into the Hall of Villains and see video saying that Cicada left for a while and then came back. They learn that he continued to kill and had a body count of 152 people. They mention how The Flash’s legacy was never the same. Before they can leave, Future Iris walks in and starts to yell at a young Nora (Avionne Dean).

Grace takes Nora back to the hospital because that is her actual last memory. Nora loses track of Grace and walks into the night that Cicada obtained the dagger and declared war on metas. Nora asks Grace how she heard Orlin that night. She tells her she’s been listening and then she shows her another scene– it’s the night Orlin mentioned the woman speedster that is The Flash’s daughter. Grace puts everything together and she gets angry at Nora, yelling that she’s The Flash’s daughter – the one that hurt her uncle.

Nora tries to persuade Grace that she’s only trying to help her, but Grace is only believing what her uncle has told her. As her anger continues, she says that her uncle is the hero and that he only hurts metas. So, she’s going to protect her uncle. Cicada comes into the hospital room, but Nora gets away before he can hurt her.

Back in Nora’s memories, Barry and Iris witness Future Iris reprimanding a young Nora for running off into The Flash Museum. Nora screams that she hates her mom when she causes Nora to break a Flash action figure, but Future Iris just grabs her by the arm and drags her out of the building. Once they’re gone, Barry immediately tells Iris that this Iris wasn’t her. Iris disagrees and says that it will be. Nora will grow up hating her mother, even though Barry keeps trying to tell her otherwise. She thought that even if she changes the timeline in the smallest ways that things will be different. Barry puts it together that this is the reason why Iris changed her mind about the newspaper. Iris tells him that the Central City Citizen was the only name that cleared. Iris thinks that if she doesn’t start the paper it will help the future, but after seeing Nora’s memories, even after she came back in time, it isn’t encouraging her much. She tells Barry that they need to forget about it for now and continue looking for the portal. As they leave, Barry looks at a Reverse Flash costume that moves once he’s passed.

Cisco’s still at the bar, but he can’t leave because his phone has no service. Ralph apologizes for lying and Cisco gets upset because he could be working on the cure instead of at the bar. Ralph says he just wanted to give Cisco a night off from worrying about Cicada. Ralph goes to try and find service and Cisco starts talking to the bartender. She mentions how she’s only working there until she can find a way to make more money as a photographer. She mentions that her sister got her the job and this sparks and idea in Cisco’s head about how to finish the cure. He introduces himself to her and she introduces herself as Kamilla (Victoria Park). Ralph happily watches the exchange from the doorway.

Barry says he can’t find a portal, but just then Iris tells Barry to get down and they hide from the Reverse Flash suit. Grace’s defense mechanism is still attacking Nora and Barry curiously mentions that Reverse Flash is Nora’s defense mechanism. Sherloque and Caitlin try to hurry and get everyone out of the memories.

They use a device to call Nora, Barry, and Iris inside of the memories and tell them that the only way for them to escape is to get through the perception gaps. They have to break down the false memory to get through to the real memory. Nora realizes that the dollhouse was the fake memory and Barry realizes that the Hall of Villains with Nora was the fake memory. Barry tells Iris that everything was just a perception of an angry little girl and she will never be that person.

Nora goes back to Grace’s home memory, but when she tries to tell Grace that her memory wasn’t real Cicada comes in and kills Orlin. Nora and Cicada begin to battle. Barry and Iris make it back to the Hall of Villains when the Reverse Flash’s defense mechanism comes in. When they start fighting, things begin to change to the correct memory. Reverse Flash gets ahold of Barry, but Iris saves him when Reverse Flash tries to tell him that death and failure is the only legacy he will have. She blasts him and he disappears. Thankfully, Nora is able to manage to defeat Cicada. Things change back to the right memory. Barry and Iris get to see the actual memory of when Nora ran off to The Flash Museum and we see Future Iris comforting Nora in a more caring way. They leave to find Nora. Nora tries to tell Grace that things can be better for her if she just wakes up, but Grace calls Nora a liar. Cicada attacks Nora again, but Nora finally gets a clear view of Cicada and sees that it is an older Grace. Before she can stab Nora with the dagger, Barry and Iris come in, grab Nora and make it through the portal safely home.

Cisco and Caitlin figured out why Barry and Iris went into Nora’s memories instead of Grace’s.  A shrapnel shard is still inside of her brain so no one else can enter it again because it’s too dangerous. Nora draws a picture of the inside of Cicada’s house as another way to help them stop the meta. Barry asks her why she went into Grace’s memories without them and she stumbles over saying that she got a little excessive about it. Sherloque; however, says that she was protecting her secret and Barry asks what it is. After sitting in a worried silence, Sherloque says that it was about hiding her memories of her mother from her childhood. After everyone leaves, Sherloque asks Barry what defense mechanism Nora used. He tells him that it was the Reverse Flash.

Iris walks the hall to her new office. When she unlocks the door, Barry and Nora are waiting for her with champagne to celebrate. She’s decided that she will name the paper Central City Citizen and then Nora shows them that the established year of the paper has changed from 2021 to 2019. Barry leaves and Nora tells Iris that she knows she saw her angry memory. She apologizes for the way she acted in the past and the present because she realizes that Iris was just trying to protect her from ending up like her father in the future. They embrace each other and continue to unpack the office.

Nora makes another entry for Gideon to send and says that she can’t let her parents know that she’s using Thawne’s help to defeat Cicada. She has to continue to lie to protect them. We hear Grace repeatedly say “lie” and then we see the piece of shrapnel in her head begin to glow just like Orlin’s. Inside of her memory, she looks at her future self and says that Nora lied to her and they will all pay.

Barry, Ralph and Barry discuss a breakthrough with the metahuman cure. Barry then says that he wants to use the cure on Cicada.
