“New Orleans is a survivor.  She has faced down countless tragedies. Fire, floods. Where another city would buckle, New Orleans turns misery into magic. And each year, the greatest tradition endures…Mardi Gras. In spite of all our differences, the whole city celebrates carnival season together. There’s no better mistress than Mardi Gras as long as you can stand the heat.” – Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood)

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) comes to Vincent and accuses the witches of taking Hayley.  Vincent assures that as soon as Freya (Riley Voelkel) told him that Hayley was missing, the witches went to work performing spells to try to find her.

Next, Klaus goes to the wolves and makes the same accusation. Why would they do something to their alpha? A wolf named David (Jason Burkey) reminds that it was a bloodsucker that killed Henry just for being a hybrid. Klaus says that maybe the wolves want to do the same to Hayley because she is a hybrid.

Klaus then confronts Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). Marcel reminds that none of his guys would do anything to hurt Hayley; the vampires like her. Returning to the wolves, Klaus warns that if his daughter isn’t reunited with her mother by sundown, they will face the wrath of his disappointment. He tells Vincent that if two Mikaelsons in close proximity caused the city to rain blood, imagine what would happen if he gets all his siblings to join him. Marcel tells Klaus that he’s there to make sure that Klaus doesn’t do something stupid that they will all regret.

Vincent calls Freya and tells her about Klaus’ bad way at motivational speaking. He reminds her that the cards predicted that her niece was the devil in disguise so Freya is at the Salvatore School to visit Hope (Danielle Rose Russell).  When Freya arrives at her door, Hope immediately panics thinking that something must have happened to her mother. Freya assures they haven’t heard anything about Hayley; she just came to visit her only niece.  Freya finds that Hope has been performing locator spells from several different languages.  Freya thought that they weren’t allowed to practice magic outside the classroom. But Hope says that since being suspended, she’s been doing extra work to keep her grades up. Freya suggests that Hope take her to see the cute boy that her niece had hiding in her room last week.

Klaus and Marcel go to a location in their search for Hayley. The find the place reeks of wolvesbane and vervain, meaning that Hayley was there.

Hope takes Freya to the soccer field and shows her Roman (Jedidiah Goodacre). Hope tells her Aunt Freya that she’s working on the locator spell to find her mother since no one has been successful up to this point.

Josh (Steven Krueger) is with Greta (Nadine Lewington) searching for Hayley per Klaus’ order. Greta is annoyed as she feels doing Klaus Mikaelson’s bidding his no way to honor their fallen friend Poppy. Klaus suddenly appears out of nowhere and grabs Josh. He then brings Josh to a basement.  It’s a hostage situation as there is a vampire (Josh), a wolf (David) and a witch named Colette (Malone Thomas). Klaus believes that all the factions will realize that he’s serious about whoever took Hayley to return her. He demands that Colette seal herself and the others in a prison circle. “I won’t do magic for you,” Colette defiantly says. Klaus tells Colette that if she doesn’t do what he says, he’ll hunt down anyone she loves and there will be blood, gore and screaming. Colette complies with Klaus.

Vincent does a spell for Marcel and tells him that Hayley was definitely there. Marcel notices that seven years ago, Vincent would give him respect but now all he gets is attitude. Vincent tells Marcel that he used to like the city better when it ran like a democracy instead of a monarchy. Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) enters. She tells Marcel and Vincent that Klaus has taken Josh, David and Colette and will kill them if Hayley isn’t returned by sundown. Vincent is furious; every time he tries to give that family the benefit of the doubt, he gets burned. Vincent vows that he will get Colette back. He tells Ivy that there is no better strategist than Klaus Mikaelson. “But he needs his brother as his co-captain. Elijah has to rein him in.” Ivy suggests that before Vincent goes off to rescue Colette, they should consult the cards so they will know what happens first.

Marcel goes to where Klaus has Josh, David and Colette and promises Josh that he will get him out.

Hope brings Freya to “the Mean Girl lair of the Saltzman Twins.” They perform the spell but it doesn’t work because Hope heals as soon as she cuts herself and spills her blood. Freya knew the spell wouldn’t work because if it did, one of the more powerful New Orleans witches would have tried it. Freya tells Hope about Ivy’s cards predicting that she (Hope) is the one that puts the city in danger.

Greta accuses Marcel of being more loyal to Klaus than the vampires. Soon, wolf Lisina (Alexis Louder) and Greta are bickering over the vampires killing Henry. Marcel grabs them both by the throat and makes a threat. “If Josh dies I’ll bury the both of you.” He orders them to find Hayley.

Ivy reads the cards for Vincent and tells him that Klaus is walking a fine line because he knows that if he tries anything they will revolt.

Marcel orders Klaus to let Josh and the other hostages go.  Klaus refuses to appear weak to his enemies. Marcel reminds that the Mikaelsons are his family. “For the last seven years I have been a phone call away whenever Hope needed me.” Klaus tells Marcel that Elijah remembered who they were but still wanted nothing to do with him.  Marcel urges Klaus to work through the pain. A box is delivered. “They mutilated her,” Klaus says furious when he sees what’s inside.  Marcel reminds that they are goading him (Klaus).  “Then they will pay,” Klaus vows. Marcel tries to stop Klaus from doing something rash. “Marcel I’m going out of my mind here, I don’t do well without Elijah.”

Colette wants to break the barrier spell and escape. David agrees with her. “Says the guy who’s last words will be ‘Oops’,” Josh says sarcastically.  But Colette doesn’t listen to Josh and begins her barrier breaking spell. David leaves the circle but walks right into Klaus, who rips out his heart. He bites Colette, killing her as well. But before he can make it a trifecta with Josh, Vincent arrives and uses magic to toss Klaus across the room. Then, Vincent says that it’s Klaus’ turn to give back some of the blood he has taken. Klaus begins choking blood.

Josh is angry that Marcel failed to stop Klaus. Vincent tells Marcel to clean up the mess. “I have a witch to bury.”

Freya tells Hope that as a first born Mikaelson witch, she (Hope) has tremendous power that could be deadly.

Marcel has Klaus chained and in a coffin. He asks Klaus whether any of his sob story about Elijah was true. Klaus says it was adding that even when they were estranged, he always recognized the brother he loved.  But when he looked back at Elijah, it was like looking at the eyes of a stranger. Klaus tells Marcel that he now knows that it was a vampire who took Hayley.  Marcel returns to the vampires and makes a new set of rules. “I’m restricting your movement. From now on, no more daylight rings.” Klaus enters and kills a vampire who protests.  It looks like Klaus and Marcel are on the same team again and will be until Hayley is found.

“What do we do now?” Hope asks her Aunt Freya, worried that the cards prediction about her (Hope) will come true.

Ivy gives a speech as Colette is laid to rest by the witches.  She says that they will collect honor again and lead the city “Together as one.” Soon the witches are chanting “Together as one.”

In the bayou, David is put on a floating pyre raft and sent down the river. Lisina says that war has been declared on them. “First by killing an innocent boy, then by abducting our alpha.”

“I knew you wouldn’t stay down for too long.  What do you want?” Vincent asks Klaus. “Take your time commemorating your dead.  Then Marcel and I need your help, we know it was a vampire who took Hayley,” Klaus answers. Vincent says that Klaus must be out of his mind if he thinks he (Vincent) will do magic for him again; he’s tired of being Klaus’ pawn. “If you come after the witches, there’s going to be war.  And I don’t mean war between the covens, I mean war between you and me,” Vincent warns.

Returning to the Mikaelson estate, Klaus throws the box and it hits a wall. A strange coin falls out. “What is that?” Marcel asks. “A message from enemies I thought I buried a long, long time ago,” Klaus answers.
