Once again scrappy Kierse McKenna finds herself stuck between the man she loves and her soulmate. Continuing her quest to break the bond that Lorcan forced on her leads Kierse and Graves in search of a stone rumored to be able to lift the curse. Unfortunately, a fae killer is on the loose, which also takes their focus. Plus, the peace between monsters is on the cusp of crumbling. Can Kierse and Graves break the bond with Lorcan and help protect the fae from a murderer? Pick up The Raven at the Ash Door to find out.
Kierse is still madly in love with Grave and still desperate to do whatever it takes to break the bond that Lorcan forced on her. In the meantime, a visit with Graves’ old friend/mentor Kingston helps focus Kierse’s powers of being able to portal places. It also reveals that a fae killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for Kingston, the death of a vampire sparks the idea that he is at the heart of the fae murders. Add in the soulsucking Amberdash’s lust for power and quest to make Kierse his attendant and Kierse and Graves certainly have their hands full. DId we mention that Jason is still lurking?
What I continue to like about K.A. Linde’s series is Kierse’s dedication. She loves deeply and will go to the ends of the earth (and afterlife) to break Lorcan’s bond and remain with her beloved Graves. I’m intrigued as we go forward with the series to see how her time in Faerie has changed her and what ways her geas to Lorcan affects her. My only qualm with The Raven at the Ash Door is the graphic sex exploration between Graves and Kierse. Is it needed to show the trust level between them? Is it there because it shows their deep love for one another? I don’t know. Either way, I felt it unnecessary to the heart of the story.
Author K.A. Linde continues to craft a deeply fascinating and investable story following the fates of the Holly and Oak kings. Which will win Kierse in the end is irrelevant at the moment as the fate of the monster world and fae folk still remain at peril. I remain eager to see how it all unfolds and the lengths Kierse is willing to go to in order to severe her connection to Lorcan. I think it is worth picking up The Raven at the Ash Door to follow the latest chapter in the Kierse and Graves vs Lorcan saga.
