Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I guess it would be indie-pop-rock? I always struggle with this question!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Taylor Swift is actually the reason I started playing music. She was such a huge influence on me when I was young. Melody Pool definitely inspired me to start writing my own music too.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Psycho.”

A) “Psycho” was written at the start of 2019 with a friend of mine Aidan Hogg. Going into the session I felt like I really wanted to write a song about something that was really prominent in the media at the time and was also something personal to me. Conversations about gaslighting in relationships was all I was reading about on my phone. It was all over my Facebook and Instagram, people were speaking up about their experiences which made me think about mine.

It forced me to really think about the situations and relationships I’ve been in where I have experienced gaslighting and how it made me go fucking crazy. I constantly thought I was the issue, that everything was my fault and I kept apologizing for things that I later realized weren’t my fault at all. I feel like when you are in these circumstances, sometimes it feels like you’re going insane, I felt like I was turning into this psycho person and it seemed like nobody else saw where I was coming from. However, seeing all of these other people speaking up about it made me deal with my emotions that I had just ignored and I finally felt like I could put all of my anger and frustration and hurt into something that means something. Hopefully, this song helps other people who may be feeling or experiencing the same things.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I just think that gaslighting is something that a lot of people can relate to, which is unfortunate. But I really do hope that listening to the song helps people with their experiences and makes them realize that they’re not alone.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) When I’m writing I usually find chord progressions that I love and then track down melodies where I’m pretty much just mumbling sounds. I’ll go back to the melodies and most of the time I can hear words come out in the mumbles that I’ve laid down which really helps me when it comes to writing lyrics!

Q) How much of your own hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I love to be really involved in the whole process of writing, recording, mixing of my music, but when it comes to producing, I leave it to my producer!

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I have an album coming out very soon!

Q) You’ve played some major festivals in Australia, but where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I think my favorite place I’ve ever performed would be Riverstage in Brisbane. It’s a mammoth stage and I remember being there when I was about fourteen watching Chet Faker thinking about how much I wanted to be on that stage. So, it was a pretty surreal moment playing there.

Q) You’ve gotten some incredible support from big musicians such as Lewis Capaldi. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would loveeeeee to collab with Benee! She’s so damn cool.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m really obsessed with Dayglow at the moment. I feel like all of his songs are super catchy, but are all musically really simple. I watched his videos on YouTube where he explains how he wrote certain songs and I just found it so interesting how simply he produces and writes. He’s also very funny. 😛

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s just an amazing tool to be able to connect with people all over the world! I feel like we’re so lucky in this day and age to be able to have access to social media and to be creative with our industry. Coronavirus has really shown how our community can come together and utilize social media in a great way.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much for following me and believing in what I’m doing, it makes all of it worth it for sure.
