Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I like to say I dabble in genres. My sound is pop music with a heavy influence on R&B.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I love Chris Brown, Cocaine 80s and Kanye West and cite most of my influences from songwriting to producing to them. R&B is also a major part of who I am as an artist and will also need to give a shout to Jeremih, Partynextdoor and Bill Withers.

Q) Talk about the story behind each of your three new singles.

A) My first single “All Night” is about meeting a girl, driving around the city and spending all night with her. It was the perfect debut for me and definitely in the direction of where I’m going musically, and how my new project sounds. “Company For Now: is about a girl that approached me and asked if I wanted to be her “company for now.” Her confidence and approach blew my mind and I had to write a song about her. Obviously, in the song I made it sound like it was me and I was a G, but she approached me like that. [laughs] She knew what she wanted and knew she was gonna get it. That’s why I said, “You bad as f**k and you know it.” [smiles]

“Avenue” is one of the songs I’m the proudest of making, especially how the production turned out. “Avenue” came from a vulnerable place. Once I had the guitar down, the melodies and what I wanted to say followed quickly. I had seen this girl for a while, and we were in that awkward stage where I didn’t know what to call us. I kept it mellow and didn’t blow her phone up, but I am a Cancer, and we are very in tune with our emotions. 😂 Staying home and overthinking is the worst thing you can do when you’re in that position. So, I went back to my old ways to try and distract myself but ended up feeling lonelier at the club.

Q) How do the visualizers for each of the tracks play into the messages behind them?

A) I was very vocal from the beginning that I wanted all the visualizers for the Floor Plan EP to be animated. I wanted to tie in a story and cohesive look for each release. The visualizers are short and straight to the point to the lyrics behind each record.

Q) What makes these songs perfect for the summer?

A) It’s all about the feelings for me – the vibe and the sound. For instance, “Company for Now” has a daytime barbecue/kickback feel to it. “All Night” has a sunset lounge late summer vibe to it and “Avenue” is the next day after the girl you met at the barbecue isn’t getting back to you.

Q) What kind of fan response have you been receiving re: the new music on social media?

A) The fan response has been absolutely incredible. Overwhelming, actually. We’ve received a ton of love from new listeners discovering it on the radio such as BBC 1xtra and BBC RADIO London. We’ve also had the song pick up on TikTok, which has been fun to track. But the most heart-warming response has been the ones directed to me in my Instagram DMs. People have told me very close, personal and incredible things my songs and online presence is doing for them. Just last night I FaceTimed a fan and she had gotten my name tattooed on her left shoulder. Wild!

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My songwriting process is very unorthodox, I feel! [laughs] I produce my music as well, so usually I start with the music production. Once I have a base for the layout of the production, my favorite thing to do is get in the car and drive around. I’ll play the instrumental on repeat and sing melodies throughout while recording myself on voice notes. I guess the best way to put it is that I’m just singing what I naturally feel the melodies should be, without trying too hard or overthinking it. I’m driving – I’m in my zone and the ideas rush through me. I listen to most music in general when I’m in the car, so when I hum and come up with lyrics and melodies, it’s second nature.

Q) You are working with JV the Producer & JNS. How much of hand do you typically have in the production of your music?

A) Every song I do is different. I love collaborating and believe music is best when you’re able to put creative heads together. There are so many talented musicians on the scene right now and it’s exciting getting to work with people all around the world. There are songs on the EP I did ninety percent of the production on and there’s one song on the EP I didn’t produce on at all but did more writing and pen game on. The end product is what matters the most to me.

Q) “Avenue” is a follow up to “Company For Now” and “All Night,” – tell us about the Floor Plan  What can fans expect?

A) Floor Plan is the perfect representation of how I am as an artist in this space and time. I collide my vast musical influences from my dad playing folk-indie guitar growing up to moving alone at sixteen-year-old to America and attending high school in Los Angeles, where the only music you’d hear would be hip-hop, trap and R&B. I love where I’m at mentally, musically and artistically and fans can expect my greatest work yet.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) My favorite place I’ve performed to date was the last show I did before COVID. It was a sold-out stadium show in my hometown Oslo, in front of twenty thousand plus people. It was a full-circle moment for me playing at home, being fifteen minutes from the house I grew up in and having started this journey here. To see how far I’ve come, it motivated me to go a hundred times harder.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Getting Chris Brown on a song would be a childhood and current dream come true.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I haven’t had time to listen to a lot of other stuff lately. I’ve been so, so busy finishing my debut EP and releasing these current singles. That being said, I listen to a lot of Baby Keem, James Fauntleroy and Pharrell.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Jeg ELSKER deg! <3
