Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is raw, authentic, real, bold and passionate.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I’d say some of my musical influences are Avril Lavigne, The Movements, Paramore, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Soft Cult!!

Q) You were mentored by Boy George on CTV’s series “The Launch.” What advice did he give you that you took to heart?

A) Boy George honestly said to just be yourself, trust your voice and keep it simple!! Sometimes I tend to overthink and people please a little, so I definitely appreciated his advice!

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Let’s Pretend.”

A) The story behind “Let’s Pretend” is basically about being obsessed with someone so much that you feel like you’re willing to do whatever it takes for that person. It’s meant to symbolize how you can lose touch with yourself all for the sake of taking matters into your own hands to get this person.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think that the experience this song touches upon is a really common feeling of vulnerability that people my age will have experienced at least once and connect with.

I think my fans can appreciate that I’m able to take a chance on singing about what’s in my imagination and interpret through song, the personal & scary experiences in life. Sometimes we all are afraid to admit to ourselves, something that’s there inside us. Having a safe place to talk about the things that go on in your head and heart can be beneficial for someone and their wellbeing. I hope my fans connect with that feeling.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The premise of the video is me talking to the camera while the video flashes back to previous memories with this person; implying a really developed relationship. However, at the end it shows that I only just met the person. This emphasized the obsession that enhanced my memories with him, to seem more than they actually were.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My writing process is pretty straightforward. I basically pick out a theme or something that’s relevant in my life in the moment and I have a writer and producer A.N.G.E.L. who really guides me through the writing; often taking the lead (which I appreciate and is necessary for me). The writing chemistry is strong, so it helps with the creative process. A.N.G.E.L. creates the melody before the lyrics so that it gives the song a better flow.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’d say that the writer and producer I work with plays a big role in the production and the overall direction of what the finished song should sound like. We’re a great team and we both complement each other.

Q) You’ve been working with the LA-based concert company Breaking Sound. What can fans expect from a live Victoria Alex performance?

A) Definitely high energy, a live band, passion and, honestly, just having a good time!! I want all of my fans to have fun and also be inspired.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Although The Mod Club is closed down that was one of the very first venues I have ever performed! The crowd was just so electric, and the vibes were great!! So, it holds an important place in my heart.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) This is an easy one!! Hayley Williams!!!!! She is beyond talented!! I’m such a huge fan and I feel like our voices would sound awesome together.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Honestly right now I’m loving this underground band called The Movements. I think their music is just so authentic and the message behind every single is so real and captivating.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s just so important to invest your time in social media to update your fans on your music and on what’s to come in the future artistically. It’s a great way to connect with fans and see how they are doing as well. Just creating this family oriented virtual space allows you to create a bigger fanbase, while maintaining those connections.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’d like to say that their support gives me the strength to do what I do and the belief to do it. You guys inspire me to have the confidence to trust my own voice. You guys are my friends and being able to share what I love just means so much to me.
