Voix – Push

Q) How would you describe your sound?

Andi: Voix is definitely something unique to our musical personalities. We love to focus on melody, also fusing pop with alternative style preferences.

Mike: As long as we can express ourselves within the music, we’re happy to go with the flow and just create.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Mike: Fleetwood Mac to Katy Perry… and everything in between.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Push.”

Andi: “Push” was written in March of 2018 in the studio we used to work in. The song is from the perspective of somebody that self-sabotages due to their unwillingness to commit themselves for the fear of being hurt. We’ve both been through similar emotions throughout our lives, and we wanted to write something that people might connect with.”

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Andi: I think a lot of people have acted out some kind of behavior of distrust or even jealousy towards somebody they care about…maybe they were previously betrayed by somebody they trusted and maybe the message in the song helps them to align some of those feelings and realize they are not alone.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

Mike: We haven’t made a music video as of yet…

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Mike: It definitely varies; sometimes we write individually and then come together and share our ideas, figure out which areas could be improved upon and take it from there.

Andi: The process can start with a musical idea and that will inspire a melody, but we’re certainly not restricted to that. Our songs often start with a word or a phrase that might inspire a story.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

Mike: Absolutely everything is done independently, from the inception of the idea for a song, to the final mastering process.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

Mike: Our plan is to continue to release singles for now, but we wouldn’t rule out some EP’s or an album in the future we would love to collaborate with some of our great artist friends.

Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?

Andi: We’re studio junkies at heart, but there is definitely something amazing about being around other people and experiencing something together. Hopefully, we can all get back to this soon enough and make memories.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Mike: We haven’t really had the experience with the current project, as we launched in March 2020 just before the lockdown hit us. Previously, Columbia was a pretty special place for me.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Andi: That’s a difficult question… maybe Jacob Collier.

Q) With over forty years in music experience between the two of you, what advice would you give to up-and-coming musicians?

Andi: Be uniquely you and remain true to yourself. Accept the stage you are at in your musical journey and appreciate it. Don’t hold onto your music. Share it with the world because you will always continue to grow. With an open heart, you will learn something from all musical styles and expressions. Don’t allow yourself to dismiss the value of music based on a preconceived idea of that particular style. Finally, don’t be afraid to go where your path takes you.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Mike: Really enjoying Galantis right now…Everything they release is just such a high level, brilliant songs and some really exciting production.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Andi: I think the best thing about it is that we’re only a message away at all times…We can share our music and what’s going on with us so easily. It’s such a powerful tool and, being totally honest, we probably don’t make the most of it.”

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Andi: We hope you can take something positive from what we do. Thank you for being with us on our journey.
