WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Bubbly Brown Sugar is a brand new web series about love, magic and destiny in the form of a modern fairytale. The show follows two soulmates, Jewel (Tamala Baldwin) and Caleb (Rich Lowe), as they begin their journey to finding each other – starting in their dreams. Every night they meet each other for an intense rendezvous and wake up the following morning longing to see one another once more. While Jewel is trying to manifest love in the real world, her mind constantly preoccupied with thoughts of him, Caleb is more confused than anything just wanting a good night’s sleep or maybe some answers.

The series’ first episode, the first installment of a nine-part experience, is currently live for viewers and definitely worth the watch. Jewel excitedly gets lost in her own thoughts throughout the work day much to Kwame’s (James Pierce III), her best friend and business partner, dismay. The chemistry between Baldwin and Pierce is one of the highlights of the pilot as they genuinely seem like close friends, occasionally bothered with each other but more supportive than anything. Kwame’s frustration with Jewel’s distracted nature during their early morning meeting is gold. The two actors playing off one another extremely well. Their relationship makes for easy comedic breaks throughout the deliciously dramatic love story.

There’s a ton of potential here, as just about every aspect of the series’ production was impressive. It’s beautifully shot and the script is natural. For an episode about fifteen minutes long, it was paced perfectly and actually left me wanting more. Luckily, Baldwin (who also acts as the series’ writer and creator) provides a very insightful behind the scenes look at the end of the pilot.

Caleb and Jewel’s love is written in the stars and it’s only a matter of time before these two soulmates come face to face. I can’t wait to see what happens next. If you’re a fan of sexy new shows, believe heavily in the law of attraction or just need a special series to get into these days, look no further than Brown Bubbly Sugar!
