WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Call It a Day is a brand-new independent web series currently airing its first season. In the style of television shows “Broad City” and “Fleabag,” this web series follows two close friends approaching a crossroads in their lives. The lighthearted dramedy sets out to shed some light on realistic issues in the world today including things like mental health and societal pressure. It especially aimed at those in their twenties and was created for women by women to celebrate those who aren’t always highlighted by the entertainment industry. Through the eyes of badass besties Eva Favreau (Oriane Pick) and hilarious Amy Malik (Rachel Mariam), Call It a Day is a relatable female empowering series.

James (Michael Addo) sets the series in motion when he breaks it to Eva that he may not want to get married after all…during their engagement party. I wasn’t expecting the first episode to come right out with the high-stakes drama, but I’m glad it did. Call It a Day isn’t slow to start at all, catapulting you right into the lead’s quiet suffering.

The pilot episode, “Rough Night,” is the only episode available now with the rest of the six-episode first season expected to drop over the next two months. It’s the sole downside of the web series because it definitely left me wanting more. Pick and Mariam play off each other beautifully, complementing and balancing one another out, while pulling off nuanced and dramatic performances. Without saying much of anything to each other, the final moment of the first episode perfectly encapsulates their connection. I can’t wait to get to see more of their work together as the series progresses!

If you’re a fan of dramedies, best friends leaning on each other or you’re simply in the market for a relatable series with quick sharp leads you should check out Call It a Day. You won’t regret it.
