WHAT? #Emergency

WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

#Emergency is a brand-new medical drama straight from the mind of a genuine healthcare professional. The web series focuses on a group of nurses who work in the emergency room, following their journey through their careers, budding relationships and everything in between. The nurses, dubbed the heartbeat of healthcare, take the front seat in this promising new show. #Emergency gives you a glimpse of the nurses day-to-day life and it’s anything but simple.

As someone who watched “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Resident” and even “ER” (back in its heyday), I’m a big fan of medical dramas and was eager to see what #Emergency had to offer. The pilot episode, rightfully titled “Welcome,” is a good introduction to the characters and effectively teased what to expect throughout the series. Newbie nurse Camille (Melanie Miranda) doesn’t get much of a calm first day, as the first true emergency in the series comes in the form of a gunshot victim dropped off in the parking lot. She stands around in shock, exactly the way I’d be in her position. In one of the most interesting scenes in the debut, nurse Victoria (Letitia Wise) and Dr. Benson (William Pennix) argue over whether or not they should go outside to help the victim or wait for security first because there’s still a potential threat. Another highlight of the episode comes later on when a code blue gives you another taste of everyone’s personalities. “Welcome” was the perfect set up episode, planting little nuggets of what is to come and being engaging enough to get viewers to latch on and want to see what the rest of the season will bring.

There’s a nice mix of humor and heart and the promise of a little calm, a little chaos and a little comedy was easily met. Not to mention the diverse ensemble cast, which immediately drew me in. In this day and age, all casts should be as inclusive as #Emergency is now. The episode was short, but you could tell the cast plays off each other’s energy well too.

Episodes drop every Monday at 8pm on YouTube. If you’re a fan of medical dramas, casts that depict what the world really looks like or just a new show to support and get into, #Emergency definitely needs to be on your radar. Check this one out!
