WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Fortheboys is a brand-new LGBT web series that follows three queer, black best friends as they navigate the intoxicating world of love and friendship in New York City. The trio of twenty-somethings each set out on their own personal journeys of self-discovery and search for fulfilling relationships, while having one another to lean on when the going gets tough.

Anthony (Chandler Bryant) is learning what it means to be his most authentic self, in life and in a newfound relationship. Jamal (Drew Coleman), the self-proclaimed hopeless romantic of the group, explores the avenues of online dating and interracial relationships. Undisputed life of the party Syed (Lamont Walker II) ponders his significance in his world of casual noncommittal partnerships. Through these three characters, Fortheboys explores every element of Black Queer life from masculinity to code-switching, religion to friendships and more. Anthony, Jamal and Syed show varied accounts of what it means to be both black and queer in this world. The unofficial trailer alone shows the chemistry between the three leads, as they dance down a sidewalk and literally hold each other up.

The creators of the series set out to create something inspiring with the ability to resonate with audiences everywhere and I feel like they’ve hit the nail on the head. Representation always matters and Fortheboys boasts three different experiences from three strong, well thought out characters. On the show’s website there are short thirty second introductions to each of the leads and they really give a genuine feel to each of the boys. In under a minute you get a real impression of who these characters are, including their style and vibe. If the team behind the series could convey that in a short, without much dialogue, imagine what they can bring out in the actual episodes.

If you’re looking for a series that touches base on every reality of black and queer life or want to support a brand-new series from diverse creators, keep this show in mind. Mark your calendars, Fortheboys premieres on March 1st and it’s not one you want to miss.
