WHAT?  Kait & Nic

BY: Nicole Lee and Kaitlyn Krieg

WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Kait & Nic will be shown at ClexaCon in Las Vegas this year. ClexaCon runs from April 11th until April 14th, 2019. Kait & Nic is one of the web series that will be shown during the film festival at the convention. Lucky for you, you don’t have to wait until you get to Vegas to watch this series as the entire first season of this series is currently available on YouTube!

This series follows the two main characters Kait (Kaitlyn Krieg) and Nic (Nicole Lee) as best friends trying to find love in the city. The chemistry between the two main characters is so natural that characters throughout the first season ask the same question I had, “Why aren’t Kait and Nic dating each other?” The first season is only four episodes long and each episode is between six to seven minutes, which makes for a very easy watch. While this is a comedy, the series deals with important issues such as misconceptions of what it means to be bisexual, depression and anxiety and, of course, if there is “the one” and if there is how do you find that person.

Nic is introduced as a bisexual and provides excellent representation in this series. One of my favorite parts of the series was when Nic kept telling her friends to stop erasing her sexuality. When she was with a woman her friends wanted to identify her as gay, but when she was with a man, they wanted to call her straight. Nic very succinctly points out that whether or not she is dating a man or a woman, her sexuality is the same and that people need to stop erasing her sexuality based on who she is currently dating.  Nic also has amazing style in this series and continuously rocks a tie and vest (which is one of my favorite looks). Nic is confident and a complete romantic. She likes making grand gestures for the right person and is a planner after my own heart.

Kait identifies as a lesbian. She struggles with depression and anxiety. In the dating forum she is a bit too forthcoming about her depression and anxiety and as such her friends recommend that she not talk about her mental health issues on first dates. Kait is far shyer than Nic, but when she is with Nic you see her relax and truly shine. Kait is sensitive, thoughtful and real. Kait doesn’t want to pretend to be something that she isn’t. While Kait may be unsure of her journey, she takes each step along the way with grace and integrity.

This is an entertaining and smartly written series and I, for one, really hope there is a second season in the future. The two main actresses effortlessly portray the main characters with grace, heart and soul. While the series does not take itself too seriously, it certainly handles important topics. Feel free to watch this series on YouTube or if you are going to ClexaCon Las Vegas, you can see it during the web series showings.

WHERE CAN I WATCH?  All four episodes have already been released and can be found on YouTube.
