WHY SHOULD I WATCH?
TallBoyz is a Canadian sketch comedy series that’ll have you laughing your butt off with every episode. Comedians and creators Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair and Franco Nguyen star as four friends, often playing ridiculous fictionalized versions of themselves, as they tackle various topics. They also occasionally throw on goofy mustaches or costumes to play equally zany characters.
The diversity of the leading cast is what initially drew me to the series. Unfortunately, it’s rare to see multiple races represented across leading talent in sketch comedy, so I was pumped to come across this show. And I’m so glad I did. The humor is smart, sometimes insane, but always entertaining no matter what. The sketches aren’t easy to predict at all as they start out one way and you think you know where it’s going to end, but then all of a sudden, a hilarious curveball is thrown your way and someone’s getting their nose ripped off by a child. Literally.
There were a ton of highlights in the sketches I watched that it’s difficult to zero in on just one. The guys singing about the pros and cons of being tall in the club, Guled being pulled over so many times he can recite the cop’s every word in unison, an energy drink to put up with ignorance and the new Asian pop-up restaurant offering grade school harassment alongside authentic food for a true cafeteria experience were so clever and absolutely standouts for me. I actually lost track of time watching their sketches because I was enjoying them so much.
Everyone could use a good laugh these days and Tallboyz will absolutely come through for you. The first season is currently available to stream, with the second season set to premiere next year. If you’re a fan of sketch comedy and you’re sick of the same old overused jokes and impressions, you’ll love this show. It’s something new, fresh and it’s impossible to watch without a smile on your face.
