WHO?

This series is created, written and directed by Chelsea Steiner.

WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Visibility, diversity and being able to see yourself represented on the screen – these were to goals of the writer and creator of this web series and Steiner achieved each goal. It was so refreshing to watch a web series with characters that were straight, bisexual, nonbinary and transgender. Not only was sexual orientation and sexual identity diverse, but so were the ethnicities of the cast.

This series is a sex-positive comedy that is five episodes long with each episode spanning between four minutes and fifty-nine seconds and five minutes and fifty-five seconds. The premise of the series is that Riley (played by Carolyn Jania) is a graduate student at the Anthropology Program at UCLA. The first episode is her interview for a job working at a sex store in West Hollywood called The Pleasure Chest. When asked why a graduate student would want this job Riley responds that the focus of her studies is on human sexuality, specifically the rising trends in casual sex and the hookup culture. Riley thought working at The Pleasure Chest would provide her with some much needed “hands on” experience. During her interview Riley is clearly very uncomfortable talking about her specific sexual experience or even saying the word “sex.” I found this to be a subtle nod to the meaning behind this series.

Sex and the means by which some people choose to experience sex, in our current culture, is cloaked in shame. Riley, at the beginning of this series, is a personification of this stigma many attach to sex and sexuality. It was a joy to watch Riley mature throughout the series and become more comfortable with human sexuality. Thank You Come Again does a wonderful job of removing the judgment and stigma from sex stores and human sexuality and shines the light on the fact that at the end of the day places like The Pleasure Chest are providing people with the tools they need to connect with one another. Sex stores are just trying to help people achieve human connection, something that we all long for in one way or another.

The episodes, while being informative and open minded, were also very entertaining and humorous. The chemistry between the cast mates was natural and relatable. By the time I got to the end of the fifth and final episode I found myself wanting more and was visibly disappointed that there wasn’t another season to binge.  If you are looking for a web series that will educate, entertain and leave you wanting more then make sure to check out Thank You Come Again!
