WHY SHOULD I WATCH?
In a world where your relevance is directly related to the amount of Instagram followers you boast and the success of your social media presence in general comes the web series The Fash Life. While poking fun at the culture of online influencers, the series also highlights the insane creativity of content creators, acknowledging the work they put in as they’re building their brands and creating a following. The episodes are a mix of comedy sketches and lifestyle blog type videos featuring actual influencers, bloggers, models, actors and more.
At first, I thought the series was going to be a parody or a straight comedy, but I was pleasantly surprised to see these creators celebrated rather than mocked. Influencing may seem like an easy job, but it’s not; editing, marketing and a constant charismatic energy are all aspects of an influencer’s responsibilities. Not just anyone can roll over one day and start racking up sponsorships.
My favorite episode was, of course, “Palentines Day: Valentines For Your Pet.” Lisa Valerie Morgan takes a page out of Leslie Knope’s book and in addition to celebrating Valentine’s Day and Galantines Day, creates a holiday so “Pawrents” can shower their furry friends with gifts – Palentines Day. The episode was a real standout for me, as it perfectly pairs the blogging aspects of the series with the comedy.
Poppy Peterson (Ashley Dulaney) shows up uninvited to the party, with no pet, and no real sense of what it means to be an influencer. She’s a hot mess in the best way and the over the top antics of Poppy against the rest of the very professional influencers is comedy gold. She’s trying to steal dogs (which is what I would do) and desperately attempting to connect while everyone else is just trying to mingle and get a great photo op. The party details are also top notch with designer dog toys and bakery treats throughout that look exactly how you imagine.
The Fash Life is an original web series all about the influencer life and anyone with an Instagram account or an interest in some lifestyle and fashion tips will enjoy this one. There are currently eleven episodes available, as well as Fash Life Bytes, short little segments that showcase some behind the scenes elements. All worth checking out.
