WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

The Hilltop Show is a student-run political comedy web series and talk show for Georgetown University and the youth of America. Founded by Alexandra Bowman, the variety show series is truly for the youth of the nation by the youth of the nation. They comment on every day happenings in politics through satirical sketches, political cartoons, interviews, weekly roundups and, of course, memes.

The series offers smart political commentary with skits that rival “Saturday Night Live’s” cold opens and Weekend Update. One of their most clever creations is “Capitol Hillmann” from Graham Hillmann, offering political analysis on things like politicians missing their deadlines. They’re just like us after all. The Hilltop Show’s Instagram is also full of daring cartoons; digital artist Laryn Kuchta’s illustrations of Donald Trump using presidential alerts now that he’s banned from Twitter and a capitol policeman claiming a certain someone as their plus one are both bold and beautiful. They don’t pull any punches. Their newest segment, “Trails to the Chief with Jaz Martus” shows serious potential and makes it clear how dedicated The Hilltop Show is to churning out quality material.

These students are the target audience, so of course they know exactly how to appeal to their fellow members of Gen-Z in a way that’s self-deprecating, humorous and factual. This is the kind of massive media company I wish was available to me when I was first getting into politics. It’s super collaborative, very entertaining and (most importantly) genuinely informative.

If you’re interested in being part of The Hilltop Show, they’re currently looking for contributors to join their team in Spring 2021. Their operation is entirely virtual and open to undergraduate students from any university. They’re also looking for a variety of different content creators, including researchers, writers and performers.

Anyone with an interest in political news and reports who is sick of flipping through the cable stations, who’s just getting into politics or who wants to support the next generation of brilliant minds, needs to check out The Hilltop Show.
