WHO?

This series was written and directed by Zach Schultz and stars Kate Knappett.

WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

This is the first web series comedy I have seen that actively takes on the issues of anxiety and depression. Kate (Kate Knappett) has severe anxiety and depression to the point that she tries to avoid contact with strangers and the outside world as much as possible. Kate is an artist who is able to support herself by working from home. However, her agoraphobic lifestyle is a lonely one so Kate somehow creates a clone (also Knappett) of herself to help keep her company, hence Two Kates. We never find out how she creates a clone, but we do see the progression of the clone becoming more her own entity as the time passes and she has different experiences from the other Kate. We never know, nor does anyone else, who the original Kate is and who is the clone. This was done on purpose by both Kates, who felt that such knowledge would create an inequity between the two Kates. This seven-episode series follows the two Kates through their daily routine and life’s up and downs.

The acting on the part of Kate Knappett is perfect. As the time goes on she manages to make subtle differences in each Kate that serve to truly make them two separate people and personalities. It got to the point where I completely forgot that it was the same actress playing both parts.  This is a thoughtful, touching comedy with heart. If you are looking for a web series that truly takes on the issues of mental health in a realistic and thoughtful way, then you should definitely watch this.
