WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

What price are you willing to pay for a juicy story? Journalists and podcast hosts Artemis (Mary Kate Wiles) and her twin brother Paul (Steve Zaragoza) uncover a secret race of werewolves and are forced to ask themselves that very question. Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye follows the siblings as they investigate Connor Creek and the paranormal mysteries in the small mining town. Brought to them by a seemingly overly paranoid town local, Ryan Reynolds (Darren Criss), they aren’t sure it’s anything more than a conspiracy theory. But when their initial pitch idea flops, they pivot to Ryan’s and their boss, played by Sean Astin, immediately sends them to investigate.

The ten-episode series also includes a narrative podcast. Each episode is accompanied by an in-character podcast episode where Artemis and Paul discuss their findings and all things Connor Creek. It’s a fun and creative way to get to know more about this little town and makes you feel more connected to Artemis and Paul as well. I love when web series go the extra mile and include an additional element and Wayward Guide’s in-world podcast is not only the obvious choice, but it’s perfectly executed. You get to hear the polished, edited version of how things went down for Artemis and Paul through their podcast paired with what really happened, from the unfiltered chaotic episodes.

Wiles and Zaragoza play off one another wonderfully, their back and forth draws you in right from the first episode; they nail the balance of sibling adoration and annoyance. The twins seem passionate about their work, even if they don’t always see things eye to eye. For one, Artemis is against road tripping to Connor Creek in the first place, with my favorite line of the pilot”: “I hate road trips. If you can’t fly there, just don’t go there.” While Paul is hungry for the adventure.

The series premieres on October 13th with new episodes coming out on Tuesdays and podcast episodes coming out on Fridays. Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye has everything you’d want from a web series: a podcast, zany small-town locals, supernatural mysteries and leads you want to root for. Be sure to mark this one on your calendars, you won’t want to miss it. Carlos Valdes, Titus Makin and Ashley Clements also make appearances in the series.
