Why We Love the Show Love

When it comes to the Netflix series “Love,” the network did something right mixing the shows lovebirds nerdy Gus Cruikshank (Paul Rust) and badass Mickey Dobbs (Gillian Jacobs) as season One intertwines them over a cup of coffee when Mickey forgets her wallet. As Season Two comes around, they get stuck together during a lockdown for goodness sake and here it is reaching a third and final season in this romantic comedy series just released March 19, 2018 and it couldn`t be sadder to see the show come to an end. Following a love life that intertwines at a coffee shop when Mickey forgets her wallet, it is instantly lovable as to how good “Love” is as a show. Here are three of the best moments from Season One and three of the best moments from Season Two that make up quite a collection of the great work from the Netflix Original Series Love.

Season One

First Best Moment: DVD Goodbye in Episode 2: One Long Day

It`s flat out hilarious how great this show is so we are starting off our first moment when Gus accidentally takes his current girlfriend to his ex-girlfriend’s place because he gave the wrong address after doing some drugs. Here Gus is in the car with his current girlfriend and his ex-girlfriend makes her way to them out of frustration. Having to make up some excuse as to why he is there, Gus can only think of being there to pick up some of his old DVDs. When Gus picks them up, that is when it gets real funny as he starts throwing them out the window one by one because they all resemble some false hope of love. It seems so easy. It happens in a Hollywood way. There is just a mix of hilarious false hopes that happen and one by one they go out the window. It is a laughing through the pain experience to watch this moment of DVDs flying out the car as he just lets go. Mickey encourages it and before long the whole box goes. It`s so funny! This is absolutely a brilliantly funny moment in Season One that works stunningly well in the hilarious series.

Second Best Moment: Bad Date Fun in Episode 5: The Date

Sometimes in romantic comedies you just know that two opposites that attract should go on a date because they are meant to be together aside their flaws. Well, Gus and Bertie Bauer (Claudia O’Doherty) are not that date. When a pairing seems like they are too similar in how nice they are (clearly too nice) dates can get boring. It`s just everything is swept under the rug because no one cares! They are just two nice people doing nice things, so it should work. That quickly seems so boring and Bertie reaches out to Mickey in a text. Before long, Mickey is intertwined in the whole situation because she is texting both Gus and Bertie. It ends up becoming this whole situation where both Gus and Bertie try to make the date a horrible experience for the opposing person so that it won`t work out. It is amazing the extremes Gus and Bertie go through to try to be a horrible date for one another and it gets very funny very quickly.  It is a great and funny moment to watch as two really good people try to be really bad dates.

Third Best Moment: Drugged Subway Ride in Episode 6: Andy

Cancelling on Gus is only the start of bad decisions Mickey makes before she takes off on a subway ride. Sometimes it seems that much of the bad decisions Mickey makes appear to only crack us up until she really falls, but you know much of the circumstances would be a bummer for anyone to experience. Mickey always keeps things interesting though, even during rough times. For example, after she cancels on a date with Gus we see Mickey taking the subway with a character named Andy Dick (the same as the actor playing him). After a rough day, Mickey takes to the rails of the subway where she does drugs with Andy and the ride makes for a whole lot of laughs. Perhaps it may be the looks they get on the subway, the conversations they have or what they do, but it is a hilarious moment making the third of the best moments of Season One. It`s loud, it`s crazy and it is funny. It is interesting to see how everything plays out as Gus is let down and Mickey takes the subway without cell reception.

Season Two

First Best Moment: Randy`s Friendly Wolf in Episode 4:  Shrooms

Just a sample didn`t seem like much, but when it came to psychedelic mushrooms the night evolved quickly. Perhaps too quickly. It was leftovers that Mickey was trying to avoid, but she would feel bad to throw them out so she shares – bringing out some personalities to extremes. As the night unravels, Randy Monahan (Mike Mitchell) encounters his life guide while on drugs. Not very lucky for the rest of the crew as this guide is a real living breathing wolf. Randy is insistent on following this wolf and begins chasing it. The rest follow. Mickey is supposed to be watching out for them. This wolf encounter is just a laugh out loud relief from whatever weekly stress you may have. It is definitely worth checking out this favorite moment.

Second Favorite Moment: Anyone`s Job in Episode 6: Forced Hiatus

When Bertie has to leave from the mall after she gets called into work, Mickey confronts Bertie`s boyfriend Randy about taking money from Bertie. It’s a fiasco of arguments and debates begin against one another over whether Randy is taking too much from Bertie. It`s hilarious as Randy and Mickey argue to try to prove their points. The climax of this favorite moment from Season Two happens on the balcony of the mall when Randy claims how hard it is to get a job and Mickey points to every single person she sees as having a job at the mall saying, “Well, they have a job.” By far, this is not only one of the favorite moments of Season Two…this is one of the favorite moments all together. This is the golden nugget showing how funny this show really is!

Third Favorite Moment: Meeting Mickeys Dad in Episode 8: Marty Dobbs

This is the one moment that, while being one of the highlights, is also one of the sadder occurrences of the season. This is when Gus finally meets Mickey`s dad. Wanting to be a people pleaser, Gus works to try to be likeable to both Mickey and her father, but when Mickey needs standing up for Gus doesn`t do very well at it. It is this trail of characters that make this a great moment because in it you get to see honest characters in a hard time. Fast forward to the end of the episode after all of this and you get a good laugh as Mickey and Gus cuss at random planes that her dad could potentially be on. It is a nice relief from an intense episode.

Love is Love

With so many episodes that are truly quite lovable on this series and with the production of Judd Apatow, this show is a 5/5 on my recommendations. This Netflix original is touching, funny and pretty amazing. It is a real down-to-earth look at relationships as each of these characters takes on unique traits setting them apart from one another. With Mickey’s edginess, Gus` want to be good, Birdie’s eagerness and Randy`s laziness this show is just set up to be funny. The polar opposites of some of these characters are just wonderfully constructed. The circumstances, the characters and the show works so well together that it is in this show we can truly find love.
