Q) In “Don’t Get Caught Up” you talk about no need for fear, as the news can sometimes be overwhelming and people can formulate different views/opinions. Why is this important (especially during times like COVID-19) that we as people do not fear?

A) This is a great question. I think that fear does not improve any issue at hand; it is already a challenging time as it is. Some news stories, on almost every subject, are presented in a way that grabs your attention – and we need to be wary of prioritizing that over presenting something objectively. Otherwise, headlines can be misleading and ultimately create more fear. I think we need to try and operate out of a place of love rather than fear to make the right decisions to help the challenges we face as all citizens around the world.

Q) What is your songwriting process you go through when creating songs like your new single?

A) I was actually listening to two songs right before this one fell into my lap; Black by Dave and Latinoamerica by Calle 13

They just sparked this emotional part of me that felt a need to say what I did in these lyrics. The guitar part I wrote a matter of days before that, and as usual, my guitar parts are usually accidental. [laughs]

Q) Australia is a beautiful place, towns like Hobart are amazing. How has your time there had any impact on your songwriting or been a getaway perhaps to spur ideas for your music?

A) Basically, all of my getaways inspire new songs. We live in an incredible country and driving around Australia on tour, surfing and playing shows and adventuring has been a massive influence on what songs I have written.

Q) What’s been the most special thing to you about creating this new song?

A) It is bringing a new idea to life and when it doesn’t even feel like your own song that’s when you know you have written something special – when it feels like you’ve just managed to capture a moment of truth as it passed on by.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from this single?

A) To not get caught up letting the news tear each other apart because fear is making money and doing nothing for us.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a track in the future?

A) Hmm, right now? Doing some chorus vocals for Dave would be pretty rad. Shoutout to him for being incredibly poetic in his songs.

Q) Who are some artists or albums that you are currently digging?

A) Always digging Every Kingdom by Ben Howard and shoutout to The Dreggs who are an up and coming folk duo and are writing incredible music!

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I can neither deny nor confirm this question. (but between you, me and the readers – absolutely).

Q) Why is social media such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) As an independent artist, it is a fantastic way to bring your music to the world and connect with people in real life at shows. That is bloody amazing!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) I would like to say thank you. You have all changed my life and I cannot imagine I could be as lucky as I am to have the fans I do. I cannot wait to come back and play across North America!
