Aaron Salem – Falling

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Over the years my sound has continually got better, but I would say that it has always been a mainstream mix of Rap and R&B. I don’t like my songs to be so repetitive so every song is a journey or a plot that takes place. It’s just different than anything you’ve ever heard and that’s what makes it stand out for the best.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Going all the way back to twelve years old (when I started writing) until now, my influences have been Eminem, Drake, J. Cole, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Asap Rocky and way more!

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Falling.”

A) When I wrote “Falling” I was going through some drama in my life that seemed to always revolve around women. “Falling” is a song that shows no matter how much I give to a person, the reciprocation never matched. Regardless, I always seemed to put that person on a pedestal despite the outcome. Hence, “always falling for your type.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Besides from the overall quality and catchiness that I feel the fans enjoy, I also think it is completely relatable to many. But like I said, every song I make is a story or taking someone on a journey and that’s why I feel that this song is doing so well!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) So, in the beginning of the “Falling” video you see that I’m almost basically “stalking” the model, or following her wherever she goes. I tried to make it more of a theatrical view. Something that I can act out without a script, but you’d still be able to tell who’s chasing who. Then, for the second part of the video, it’s us being close and is a little more fit for the emotion of the song.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) There are two ways I make songs. The first is I mumble a flow to the instrumental and record my “improv mumble” in the studio. Then, I take that recording, hear it back and if I’m feeling the vibe, I replace the flow with words. I feel the flow is definitely as important, if not more important, than the lyrics. It sets the groove and tone for the song. The other way (which I don’t do often) is to record to a beat, take the vocal recording only and then reproduce an entirely new beat around the vocals. Those sessions are definitely interesting because the song can go anywhere.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I co-produce all of my music. Everything. For the most part I have a producer who puts in most of the work and has an ear for things that I may not hear. But I always give him my direction so that nothing starts to go left when everything was sounding right. This is the most efficient way to do it in my opinion.

Q) Will there be an EP or a full album coming in the near future?

A) Yes, but I do not have an exact date. Right now, I’m 99.9% sure that the name of the album will be Hiatus. “Falling” will be on that album, of course.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Aaron Salem performance?

A) Definitely a lot of crowd participation. So, make sure you come knowing all the lyrics because you might just get called up on stage. [winks]

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Miami is always a great time because that’s the hometown! But just traveling in general to perform is always great. I don’t really have a specific place that I like more than the other. As long as fans are showing love, I’m good.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Definitely any of my influencers I mentioned earlier, but there are a few I feel would be dope features like: Travis Scott, Kendrick, Young Thug, Russ, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Baka, etc…

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) It’s hard to come across a lot of good new music these days because a lot of it to be honest is not my taste. I’m always keeping my ear out or playing classics. Lately, I’ve been in my own world focusing on my music solely.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Simply because it’s always available. I get to talk with fans all around the world from the UK and Australia to Asia and Canada. If I’m not touring, it’s the easiest way for people to show me love and for me to show love back!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I appreciate you for always being there for me through my ups and downs and times of self-reflecting. Your patience and love are out of this world and I will always continue to push myself to give you guys better and better music. I love ya’ll. [smiles]
