Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

Q) I just finished an indie thriller movie where I play Ashley Greene’s snarky younger sister. It was so much fun I can’t wait until it comes out. I’m currently voicing Tifa Lockhart in the new Final Fantasy VII Remake, that will be out in March of 2020. And next week I shoot a guest star role in the new CBS show “All Rise” so please tune in!

Q) Please tell us where we pick up this season on “GLOW” and with Justine.

A) At the end of Season Two as Sam (Marc Maron) and Justine are saying goodbye and they promise each other they will both finish their respective screenplays. Justine comes to visit Sam in Vegas during her Spring Break and she has come with the intention of asking him for something. We find Justine and her relationship with Sam in a newly evolved place. She’s grown and matured since her time away from “GLOW” and Sam. She has a new look and new energy. I think the shy cagey teenager we first met back in season one is starting to feel more comfortable in her own skin and is beginning to find a voice of her own.

Q) What continues to challenge you about portraying Justine?

A) In many ways Justine is such a departure from who I am, so that really is always the fun challenge for me. Over the years I think it has gotten easier to embody her as I have grown to know and love her. The fun and always challenging element of Justine is that she is constantly in a state of evolution. She is always growing, changing, evolving and redefining who she is. I think that’s the exciting part of playing a character at this age, it’s never the exact same character. Each season I get to explore a new side of her and I think season three is the biggest departure yet for Justine.

Q) What are some themes that are going to be explored in Season 3?

A) This season is less about the glitz and glam of putting on a wrestling show and more about the grittier darker reality of what goes into that. The girls are performing the same show every. single. night. And we see that take a toll not only on their physical but also their mental and emotional health. Season Three focuses in on the dynamic and intricate relationships between all of these women in a more intimate and nuanced way. We follow these women all working together to put on this grueling show while at different places with in their own lives. What I love about “GLOW” so much is that each season it takes new risks, moves outside of its proven boundaries and offers something new to its audience. This is not a show that just regurgitates what worked and resonated with audiences last time. It’s a show that is driven by bold creativity and risk taking and I think that pays off. In a time where there is so much television content being produced, I think “GLOW” proves with each new season why it is a story that is worthy and deserving to be told.

Q) Who can you tease that we’ll be seeing this season as guest stars?

A) GEENA DAVIS! Iconic Geena Davis joins us in Vegas and it is truly epic. She is so unbelievably perfect in this role and world. Geena is such a highlight of Season Three. It was amazing to get to meet and work with her. I can’t wait for the fans reactions!

Q) Where do things stand between Justine and her boyfriend Billy?

A) Justine has overall outgrown Billy. She still has fondness for him, as he was her first love, but I think Justine has found a new level of confidence and sense of worth in the world independent from the approval of Billy. At the end of Season Two Sam gives Justine a speech at the prom encouraging her to stop following Billy and Sam around and instead to be her own person. This really resonates with her and as Season Three develops we see a new found confidence and independence in Justine as a result.

Q) Talk about working with on-screen father Marc Maron.

A) Marc is amazing. He is blunt and to the point and always willing to stick up for our characters integrity, which I think especially early on in “GLOW” when I was still getting acclimated to set was such a blessing for me. Marc is outspoken and incredibly smart. He always questions something that doesn’t make sense in a scene and I have learned so much from working with him over the past three years. He’s taught be to speak out and to be unafraid to ask questions if something seems illogical or is not making sense. As actors we are our characters advocates and I have learned that from Marc.  He’s so honest and forthright and, of course, has such a great sense of humor. He’s a team player, too. When it’s my coverage and he’s off camera just saying the lines he is completely invested in the scene and gives me everything I need to work off of. I’m very fortunate to get to work and learn from him.

Q) What are some memorable moments from filming the latest season of “GLOW?”

A) My featured episode this season was directed by our very own Alison Brie! It was truly such an amazing experience. I didn’t know what to expect because I know Ali as a cast member and friend first and this was her directorial debut. But she was truly such an amazing director to work with. If every director was like Ali, I would be a happy actor. There is so much going on for a director on set in terms of technical elements to be focused on it is easy to forget about the acting performances and to just trust the actors to carry their weight. But I think because Ali is an actress first, she was very aware and focused in on what Marc and I were doing and as a result I felt so guided and seen by her throughout the whole episode. She knew how to speak in actor language that I understood. It honestly was so fun. I hope she gets to direct us again!

Q) How did you shake off a long day of shooting the show?

A) I come home and cuddle with my dog. Dogs force you to live in the moment and let go of any baggage from the day. She has no idea where I was or what I was doing all day. All she wants is for me to pet her and tell her how amazing she is and there is something so relieving about that. Truly nothing is more relaxing than hanging with my pocket pitbull Remy. Adopting her was the greatest thing I ever did for my emotional health.

Q) What do you think it is about the series that endears it so to viewers?

A) I think it’s a mixture of many things. It’s a very unique unconventional story about women’s wrestling where women are using their bodies in this non-sexualized very strong way that I think is interesting and unique for viewers. It’s a cast filled with women of all different shapes, sizes, ethnicities and personalities so there is someone for everyone, which I think is fun and disarming for viewers. I also think it’s built on story telling that is presented in a smart, bold, unique, funny, heartfelt way that both women and men can relate to. I remember when I auditioned for “GLOW.” I thought to myself, “Wow! I’ll watch this regardless of if I get cast,” because it’s this beautiful mixture of so many elements and overall just such an enjoyable watch…but obviously I’m biased. [winks]
