Q) You have a new single coming in February called “Hide and Seek.” Luckily, I was able to just listen to it. Talk about the story behind it.

A) I’m very dramatic person, the type of dramatic where any slight inconvenience I will pretend I’m in a movie and run in slow motion. This song, too, is very dramatic. In the song I’m basically asking, “how far would you go to find me?” Like, if I buy a ticket to Australia tomorrow and don’t tell you where in Australia I am, are you going to jump on the next flight, trek through the desert and then fight snakes just to see me? And if you aren’t willing to do all that, well…bye sir!

Q) My favorite thing about the song is the fact we mostly just hear your voice with some instruments accompanying. What was the recording process like?

A) Thank you so much! The recording process was definitely out of my comfort zone, as I’ve never had to record to clapping – and clapping only – before. Also, I was exploring a different sound almost. But I really did love it. It pushed me in all the right ways.

Q) Will there be a full video to accompany the track?

A) Yesssssss!

Q) Who are the artists that have influenced your sound?

A) I honestly don’t know. I feel as though the music I listen to isn’t the music I write, which is frustrating because if I could write something as majestic as “Somebody Else” by The 1975, it would be the only thing I’d talk about for the rest of my life and I wouldn’t even feel bad about it. I’d say Ed Sheeran is a big one though; he was my first exposure to shameless singer-songwriter with his first album and I fell in love.

Q) You auditioned for “American Idol” back in 2018 and were also able to perform with Katy Perry on the same stage. What did that experience mean to you?

A) It meant everything to me. I got kicked off two weeks prior for forgetting my words and I truly thought I would never sing on another stage again. (I did give you a fair warning that I’m dramatic!) Katy Perry personally selecting me to sing with her was the biggest confidence boost I’ve ever gotten. It was the first time I really felt free on a stage: no pressure, just the love of music.

Q) You were part of the “American Idol” Post Show Tour, playing in over 48 cities. Right now, with the pandemic touring is obviously not possible, do you have any ideas for virtual shows or have you done anything like that for your fans?

A) I do casual lives, but I’ve never really thought about a true virtual show before. I feel as if to ever do a virtual show, I’d have to make it super cool and something worth watching – like fireworks, people who eat fire, dancers, an overload of visuals. But for now, casual lives will do!

Q) Is there anything specific that you miss about being on stage?

A) The fan interaction: talking to them in the crowd and watching them sing your words back to you…It’s the best thing. It makes everything feel worth it.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s an easy and accessible way to connect with anyone. It’s important for me to have them feel as if they can tell me about their day, a random fact or an embarrassing moment and have them know I’m gonna laugh – or cry – with them because I am.

Q) I just subscribed to your YouTube Channel and I have been listening to some of your singles, one of them is “One Day.” I really liked the lyrics of this song. What was the writing process like, did you have the music first or the words?

A) Thank you so much! I’m so happy you liked the music – it means a lot. The writing process was a bit of both: a chord for the verse here, brainstorming lyrics there. It was taken in sections. That’s how most of my songs go; I never have full music or lyrics done before I combine them both.

Q) I´ve also been listening to “Play God.” What do you hope listeners take away from this particular song?

A) I hope they take away that you can’t, pun not intended but accepted, “play god” – but that’s okay. It sucks and it hurts, but if a relationship is dying, let it die. Who knows? Maybe one day the relationship will rise from the dead like a zombie, but until that seems like a real possibility, focus on you!!

Q) Your EP The Sad Vegan was released in 2019, any plans for another EP or a full album coming up?

A) Since this is a written interview, you can’t see my face right now – but I’m winking. Stay tuned.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) Thank you for letting me live my dream. It’s all because of you.
