Q) Tell us about why you decided to do “Truth Is” and release the video.

A) I made this song to communicate a perspective of struggle. In the music video I wanted to connect how all of our stories are more or less the same when we add some empathy into the equation. The internal message I hope the listener captures in my song is found in the bridge, “Why don’t we love each other like it’s the end?”

Q) The song and video deal with a lot of important and current issues. Why do you think you have a responsibility to share this message?

A) There is so much misinformation in the internet age and I believe the artists’ place is to convey an experience to an audience. In my experience, I’ve seen misinformation turn people on the same side against each other. So, I feel like it’s my duty to try and spread love, spread understanding and spread empathy.

Q) What is the one thing you hope people learn from “Truth Is?”

A) We all want the same thing and we all have the same struggles, in different ways. It should be our job to lift each other up, not tear your neighbor down.

Q) Would you consider going on tour, not only to share this song, but to also discuss the issues behind it? (For example, combining your tour with a speaking engagement)

A) Going on tour sounds like a grandiose dream these days. [laughs] But if it opened up, I would love to tour and open a platform to discuss these issues. The biggest problem with race relations is understanding. Until both sides listen and understand the truth, we will stay where we are.

Q) Do you have plans to release more music with similar messages?

A) I do! Social justice and, moreover, empathy is always on my heart. Will keep these messages going in my music.

Q) Who are some people you want to collaborate with in the future?

A) Anderson.Paak, Ne-Yo, Mac DeMarco, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, John Mayer, and, of course, Bri Stauss [smiles]

Q) Tell us about your experience on Listen to Your Heart. Other than winning, what was the most standout moment of the experience?

A) Having a girlfriend! Going on TV was so much fun, but it was even better sharing every step of the way with my boo. Experiencing the pandemic together was also a blessing. We support each other in so many ways.

Q) Do you have plans to work with fellow contestants in the future?

A) Yes, definitely looking to collab with the rest of the crew!

Q) What else would you like to share with your friends and supporters?

A) Make sure to follow me on Spotify! Always got new music on the way. Chris and Bri just dropped their Christmas single “Santa Claus Stole My Girlfriend” – check it here! https://song.link/i/1541478383
