Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) It is a soundtrack with an eclectic mix of musical styles, on this basis an existentialist rapper sings.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We like music of any style, but our references come from 60´s jazz, 70´s UK prog and Krautrock and 90´s hip hop. Also, you can add classic impressionism.

Q) You were recently named “Best Urban Act” and earned Album of the Year for Naturaleza Muerta. What did these accolades mean to you?

A) They mean a lot to us because we don’t do commercial music and being recognized gave us respect. It’s hard to make non-mainstream music these days, but we love what we do and we believe in music.

Q) What are some themes you explore on your new album MMXX?

A) This album is very special because is the first we made with machines and not organic instruments. It has been a beautiful challenge. The topics have to do with what happened in 2020 (MMXX), how special it has been for each of the people in every corner of the planet and introspective thoughts about how to face this.

Q) What songs on the album hold a special place in your heart and why?

A) I think “Ahora es Cuando.” This song talks about the Chilean social movement that exploded the year 2019 and that brought a very violent repression by the government. Also, in the album there are remixes of musicians that we admire like Mad Professor, Scientist, Billy Gould from Faith No More, Shane Embury from Napalm Death and many others who did an amazing job and we love how it sounds.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) We don´t have only one formula, but most of the time the music comes first and then the lyrics. We have seven albums, so we already experiment with many different creative processes and we like to change on everyone.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) We compose and arrange all the music and then we let other people get creatively involved, obviously always giving our point of view. But I like to see what happens when other minds play a role. Actually, our art designer sometimes influences us with his graphic pieces and changes the music.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from MMXX?

A) That they listen to a new aspect of our music. The vibe is the same from other albums, the CAF vibe, but this time we face a different way of composing – something that we were not used to doing, nothing but synthesizers.

Q) You have toured so many places! Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We love to play music in other places. You know, we are from Chile, on the corner of the world. So, we feel an inexplicable joy every time we can travel far to play. California, and specially San Francisco, is very important for us because we have recorded some albums there and the vibe is very similar to our country. Also, two years ago we toured to Serbia and Romania and it was amazing and we made a incredible connections with the people. And, of course, our neighbors in Argentina – good food and nice people.

Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?

A) The connection with people. When you are on stage you can feel the vibe from the people and that´s it an incredible feeling. Also, we miss playing in other and share with new people.

Q) Do you have any plans to host any live streaming performances for MMXX?

A) Yes. This month we will do a streaming show playing MMXX full set and maybe in January we can do a live show, but all depends on what is happening with the virus.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) That is a difficult question! We usually listen old stuff, many times that music surprises you more than the current one. I think because they don´t had so many commercial rules to compose. These days I´m listening to Rachmaninoff piano works, a Bitches Brew rare recording session, and from this year the new Deftones album.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It is important because you can connect with anyone everywhere anytime and that can help your music a lot. At the same time, we don´t care about numbers. We use social media to stay tuned with people around the world. This tool can be good and bad at the same time.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) That after thirteen years we are still just as restless musically, so stay tuned for more albums by Como Asesinar a Felipes from Santiago de Chile.
