With last season ending in Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) greeting their first guests and promptly falling through the termite-damaged floor, Season 2 begins with one burning question: did Jay gain the ability to see the ghosts from the injuries he sustained in the fall? As Jay wakes up from recovery in his bed, he immediately goes to check whether he can see the ghosts. Upon searching the rooms and then heading downstairs he stops in front of Pete (Richie Moriarity) on the staircase and immediately starts believing he can see him. Pete believes that Jay is talking to him until Jay walks through him and hugs the delivery man (Scott Humphrey) who is wearing an outfit like Pete’s scout outfit. Jay did not gain the ability to interact with the ghosts.

Putting that aside, since the floor debacle scared away what was supposed to be the first guests, Sam and Jay have a pep talk with the ghosts as they prepare for an older couple to be the first official guests of Woodstone. While the ghosts are not quite on board with having their space invaded by strangers, Sam and Jay remind them that they need this to work to keep the B&B running. The ghosts agree to do their best to avoid the guests. As guests Debbie (Meagen Fay) and Tom (Don Lake) arrive Sam and Jay turn on the charm and the ghosts keep quiet to uphold their promise.

At first glance Debbie and Tom appear to be quite agreeable to Sam and Jay’s hospitality, but through spying the ghosts learn that Debbie and Tom are anything but gracious. They complain about everything from the bedsheets to Sam’s perky personality, which have Pete, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) alerting Sam immediately. This prompts Sam to grab Jay and go check out Yelp where they realize that Debbie and Tom are notorious for leaving lots of 1-star reviews anywhere they go. Jay is still against eavesdropping, but Sam decides to go behind Jay’s back and have the ghosts spy on the guests in an attempt to thwart their negative comments and avoid a bad review

Meanwhile in the land of Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) and Nigel (John Hartman), their relationship is slowly but surely building. Unfortunately, Isaac notices that Nigel feels uncomfortable during a night of watching a 90’s pop culture history show. When Isaac confronts Nigel, he explains that Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long) is way too boisterous and loud for Nigel’s calmer disposition. Wanting to try and keep the peace, Isaac decides to talk with Thorfinn to try and keep the peace so that Nigel feels more comfortable coming to the house to hang out. Isaac’s talk has the opposite effect on Thorfinn as he feels dejected and ostracized for his behavior. Upset and wanting to stay out of the way, Thorfinn decides to join the cholera patients in the basement. This makes Sasappis (Román Zaragoza) and Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) unhappy as they believe Isaac should have Thorfinn’s back as his friend.

Eventually, Jay does find out that Sam asked the ghosts to intervene and is upset by this development, but later defends Sam after learning how Debbie and Tom are constantly nitpicking everything about his wife. When Debbie and Tom ask how Jay knew about the negative comments, he blames thin walls in the house. Sam and Jay plead to avoid a 1-star review and Debbie and Tom don’t know how they learned about their reviews as they made them anonymous. Unfortunately for Debbie and Tom, none of their reviews are anonymous and this changes their perspective. This also prompts them to leave a great first review of Woodstone and claim that their account was hacked when those 1-star reviews were posted. .

During a segment on the Spice Girls and their friendship, Isaac has a change of heart and takes Nigel downstairs with him to the basement. There Isaac apologizes to Thorfinn and advises Nigel that in order to be with him he needs to accept Thorfinn in his life. Taken aback by Isaac’s speech, Nigel agrees to work on common ground with Thorfinn and finds it—in watching ants. As Nigel and Thorfinn share their excitement over the ants, Nigel tries to tell Thorfinn that he should come out to the shack to see the ants there. Upon this, Isaac knows he has his work cut out trying to get Nigel to join him more at the main house.
