Gigi Cesarè – Obsessed

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is constructed from a rap beat immersed into a pop song. Most of my music is down-tempo trap, but I’m working on some up-tempo tracks with my songwriter Alicia Madison and producer Kevin Rudolph.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Hmm. I would say Lil Miquela, Kehlani and Halsey hands down for sure!

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Obsessed.”

A) “Obsessed” is loosely based on a real-life situation that happened to me with my first teen romance. Since social media and apps are so popular to my generation, it’s easy for someone to blur the lines from boyfriend/girlfriend to stalker since you can see what they are up to 24/7.  Since I’m close with the person it’s written about, the song explores more of the “what-ifs” rather than what actually happened to me.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think anyone at one point or another has gone through a similar experience to the one I describe in the song and can relate to it. It’s so easy to get swept up in what your crush is doing at any moment and the line is blurred on privacy and boundaries.

Q) The song came out on June 28th. How did you celebrate the release?

A) My family and I went out to our favorite restaurant and had a celebratory dinner.  It was a really exciting day full to see my song climbing up in streams in real time.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) My director [David Wept] did a great job of conveying a boy who zeroes in on a girl and becomes obsessed through a dream sequence. He absolutely nailed the vibe I was going for and I’m excited to work again with him in the near future.

Q) What is your song writing process?

A) I collaborate with my songwriters Alicia Madison and Lachi at Big Management. Together we brainstorm on concepts that I’m passionate about or a past experience I went through and build from that.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Not always. Sometimes I have an idea for a song that I’ll tell my writers about before we have a beat. This actually just happened to me last week!

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) All of it. My manager [Gary Salzman] said that I was the first teenager who ever came to him saying they wanted to sing trap-pop music. He said that at my age it is rare that I know exactly who I am as an artist, especially an emerging one. So, he keeps everything as close to my vision as possible.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Gigi Cesare performance?

A) I’m all about connecting with my fans during a performance. It’s why I do what I do.

Q) Can fans expect a full album or an EP in the near future?

A) I hope so! I have recorded so much material over the past year and am about to record several more tracks this summer, but the actual rollout plan is up to my manager. Fingers crossed!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) That’s a tough question! I honestly don’t know because I haven’t performed many places yet, but I’m going on tour with the Boys of Summer in a week performing all across the USA. So, I’ll keep you posted!

Q) You’ve collaborated with artists like Denzel Curry, G-Eazy and 6LACK. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Definitely Lil Miquela, Black Bear or BTS, hands down.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m so into the Phases album by Chase Atlantic. I love their sound and their lyrics are so iconic. It’s also a new kind of genre, rock-trap, which I haven’t heard much of yet.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s important for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it’s how I connect to the world (since I don’t go to physical school). It’s how my fans relate to me and they know it’s actually me running the account instead of someone else.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) THANK YOU! I see every like, comment and share on my Instagram and your support means the world to me. I hope to continue to entertain you for many years to come!
