Q) Please tell us the premise for We Can Be Heroes.

A) The team of mighty “Heroics” are captured by aliens. It’s up to their children to come together and save their parents and in turn the world at large!

Q) What made you want to be a part of the film?

A) I couldn’t imagine a better movie to make my film debut. Every character is so unique and the positive message it holds will ring true for kids and adults alike. The entire cast and crew were off the charts, amazing human beings. I’m in love with the character Robert Rodriguez chose for me.

Q) What was the audition process like for you for this movie?

A) I am beyond thankful that Robert Rodriguez contacted me… Robert and his daughter Rhiannon have become fans of my music over the past couple of years and they reached out to me with the role of Ms. Vox. Robert didn’t know much of my background and the fact that I’d be waiting my whole life for a chance like this; to dive into acting. I’ve been manifesting this opportunity since I was a little girl and it feels very kismet and magical how it’s all come together.

Q) How was your character Ms. Vox originally described to you?

A) She holds power in her voice. She’s strong and poised, with a classic diva flare to her. Her daughter has the same gift — they can both move objects using their powerful voices and help heal the world.

Q) With the name “Vox,” is there a chance you’ll be singing in the film?

A) I am indeed singing in the film! Robert told me there was a spot where I could sing a few lines a capella in the film… He asked me what I thought I should sing. Naturally, because of the film’s title and theme, I instantly thought of “Heroes” originally by one of my favorite artists of all time – David Bowie. I’ll never forget, I was driving on a nice sunny day, excitedly pulled my phone out and sang about a minute and a half of “Heroes,” as a ballad. Robert went for it immediately and worked the kids battle around it… I’m forever grateful that Robert allowed me to collaborate with him in this way.

Q) What did you find particularly challenging about this role?

A) I was able to get in a harness and fly around a bit! That was definitely something to get used to, but I’m always up for a challenge. I also had an amazing stunt double. I think her biggest challenge was making a wig with the same hair color as my hair! [laughs] Fun fact, I also sang all of my daughters (A Cappella’s) parts in the movie. [smiles]

Q) What were some of your favorite moments from filming?

A) I loved singing live on silver screen… Robert wanted to make sure we had at least half of that scene recorded live, so they dropped a microphone in over my head and recorded me live for half of “Heroes.”

Q) Did the cast spend much time together off set as they did on set?

A) I loved getting to know the cast… As soon as I arrived to Austin, I jumped in a car with Christian Slater and much of the cast went to Robert’s house. It was a perfect way for me to jump into the mix and bond with everyone straight out of the gate (since I arrived on set much later than most of the cast). Watching the kids and their amazing acting skills was pure joy and then talking to them was even more of a thrill! They are all so talented and eloquent when they speak.

Q) What message do you hope viewers take away from watching We Can Be Heroes?

A) I hope that families can come together and realize more of their very own superpowers they possess. I hope they feel empowered by these strengths and more in tune with themselves and each other. Kids are the future and this movie sends out a positive and powerful message to them all… They can do anything they set their minds to!

Q) Did you snag any memorabilia to commemorate your first acting role?

A) I received the sweetest drawing from the ever so adorable little “Guppy” a/k/a Vivien Lyra Blair. She drew me a fox to tie into Ms. Vox. How cute is that? I also got a Netflix goodie bag with all sorts of fun memorabilia like the back of a detectors chair that reads, “Ms. Vox.”

Q) You are a part of social media. Are you excited to see what the fans think of the movie and Ms. Vox?

A) I’m so happy to see that families are freaking out and loving the movie! My “Haliens” know how much I’ve wanted to act in films and it so cool to see how kids aren’t the only ones thoroughly enjoying it. It’s currently fluctuating between #3 and #1 on Netflix’s Top 10 most streamed film in all of the U.S.!!!

Q) We know that you have always had an interest in acting. Now that you have been a part of this movie, do you have plans to continue acting?

A) I’m hoping this leads to more roles for me in the future. I definitely plan on putting more time and focus into acting…It’s another passion that I want to continue to see through!

Q) What is your dream role and who are your dream costars?

A) I’d love to play a role in a period piece… Anything that lives in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s would be my sweet spot. Perhaps a biopic of a jazz or rock n roll singer… Start off elegant like Sandra Templeton from Big Fish and then dig into some grittier roles like Penny Lane from Almost Famous… We’ll see!

Q) We love your version of “O Holy Night.” Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I’m currently working on a new EP that I’m very excited about with my artists friends in Sweden (Anders Grahn and Magnus Tingsek.) Thank you for listening to my version of “O Holy Night.” [smiles] I’m wishing everyone a happy new year and also considering dropping a full version of “Heroes…” What do you guys think?! Xx
