Q) Your new album Híper is releasing just around the corner. What are some themes you will be exploring on it?

A) Well, HÍPER is actually our 5th LP. As a band we’ve been together for almost eighteen years, it is necessary to explore different sounds, creative ideas, feelings through so many years. Right now, we are focused on taking our music into a much more electronic scenario. Although we have always had an electronic DNA, with this album we were happy to throw ourselves deeply into dance music, drum and bass and house music. HÍPER is a deep, emotional album for us.

Q) What would you say is the element that might distinguish it from the previous ones?

A) The sound, the idea of producing it with four producers and, of course, showing who we are at this precise moment. When you are transparent with who you are and what you express then each record, song or idea will feel unique.

Q) Previous to this new record you went through some changes, with the exit of Joe and Reez. Was it difficult or challenging to embrace the creative process to find the new sound or even a new identity as a band?

A) It was tough at the beginning, especially while we were producing the new live show, but technology is our best friend. Also, the essence of the band is still here.

Q) Your most recent single “El Final” comes with the premise that “Everything that begins must come to an end.” How does this resonate with you as a band and what would you say is the actual meaning behind this phrase for you?

A) The ending of something is always the start of new experiences. With each album we kind of die… and then come to life with new energy. I guess that is also the idea of “EL FINAL,” the song.

Q) In “El Final” you have the opportunity to experiment with a melancholic tune accompanied with the lyrics that allude to the nostalgic memory of someone apparently long gone. In your own words, how do you describe the experience to bring this song to life?

A) It was a beautiful experience. This song came to life with producer Ulises Lozano, “El Licenciado,” an important member of Mexican band Kinky. He received us at his LA studio, so we had access to all of his gear. He is also a keyboard and synth player and geek, so we had lots of fun creating the nostalgic scenery for this song. The tune’s sound comes from a sampler of my voice. It all feels very unique.

Q) How did you come to the realization that “El Final” should be the first single of Híper to be released?

A) It just felt right. It has the essence of the band with a cool twist. Sometimes you just have to follow your gut.

Q) IHíper is an album where talented producers like Ulises Lozano, Dan Solo and Milo Froideval among others contributed to make it happen. How much of a say did the band have when it came to the production side for the album?

A) We always have the last say when it comes to our work and music. Producers should always listen to the musicians, since it is us who will be playing and repeating the songs for eternity. Working with a producer would always feel balanced. The producers we selected for this album are close friends, people we believe in. They know us very well. They also know we love playing live and all have experience making music. So, everything just came together very nicely.

Q) What would you say is your favorite song off of Híper so far and what makes it so significant for you?

A) For me (Denise), I just love the first track called “Hipersensible, Hypersensitive.” You will soon listen to it. [smiles]

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring Híper as a whole?

A) I just hope people feel free to dance and cry.

Q) With your tour around the US being a few weeks away to begin, what will attendees experience at a live Hello Seahorse! show?

A) Pure bliss and intense feelings. We are working on a powerful live show, full of iconic Hello Seahorse! songs.

Q) I know that your fans in Mexico must be yearning to hear you perform live, when can we expect you to start your tour there?

A) End of July, beginning of August.

Q) Who would you love to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) With Peso Pluma

Q) What would you like to share with fans and supporters out there?

A) Follow our tour through helloseahorse.com and our social media. Also, expect our second single any time soon!
