How to Get Away with Murder fans were given an early Christmas present (or I guess late, technically) last week. “Where Are Your Parents?” saw the return of the brilliant and iconic Cicely Tyson as Annalise’s mother and the return of a few other interesting players. Let’s break down the episode down below!

We open with Michaela (Aja Naomi King), Laurel (Karla Souza), Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) as they all prepare to spend the Christmas holiday with Connor’s mother Pam (Cynthia Stevenson) and avoiding the FBI figuring out their involvement in everything that has happened in the past five seasons. During the decorating party Laurel receives a phone call from a mysterious number. The caller of which may potentially be her mother of whom we have not seen since the end of last season.

We then go to Annalise (Viola Davis) who has brought her mother back to her place for the holidays. Ophelia (Cicely Tyson) confuses the fancy apartment for a hotel and quickly realizes that Annalise has made it big. She is still suffering from bouts of dementia and is determined to you have a good holiday with her baby girl. Annalise has bigger fish to fry when Special Agent Telesco (Melinda Paige Hamilton) calls her in for an interview and offer her some immunity for it all. Annalise agrees to meet with her but only after the holidays.

Back in the kids’ world Pam finally arrives and she’s bearing the gifts of ugly Christmas sweaters for them all. Connor is still pissed at Pam for hooking up with Asher (Matt McGorry) at his wedding. He is also trying to make sure that it’s not suspicious seeing as how he had asked her to delete an Instagram post which happened to feature Nate and Miller in the background. Pam thinks that they are all adults and should just talk about it and deal with it that way. Frank (Charlie Weber) tends to agree to seeing as how he dumps Asher and the lonely Gabriel (Rome Flynn ) onto our clan for Christmas to keep them occupied and busy.

Gabriel, of course, has made it clear that he is on the side of Annalise and the kids. Even though he is still suspicious of Sam’s death he seems as though he is willing to understand it and its truth a little bit more freely once they come clean about the real situation that happened. So when the FBI comes to seize Connor and Oliver’s wedding photos and Oli’s computer, he assures Michaela that he is on their side. We shall see if it stays that way.

Later that night Annalise has a dinner for some of her friends and invites Tegan (Amirah Vann) and Emmett (Timothy Hutton). Tegan has started becoming Annalise’s friend since early in the season, but Emmett on the other hand seems to be a wild card due to information we receive at the end of the episode. At the dinner is also Bonnie (Liza Weil), Frank and Nate (Billy Brown), whom Mama Keating is the biggest shipper of. She even tries to convince them to get married so they can’t testify against each other if anything happens.

Bonnie is, of course, still distraught over Miller and after attending is funeral and dealing with seeing Nate and everyone at Annalise’s she is still struggling badly – mostly because she thinks she may be pregnant seeing as how she’s a week late and has been experiencing morning sickness for a while now. She takes a test and if comes back negative although we never get to see it so she may be lying. Either way this could all be a pregnancy or just stress over this whole situation.

When the holidays are over Annalise finally goes to the FBI only to be stood up after waiting. It turns out she was waiting because Telesco is being taken off the case due to misconduct. What misconduct? Well, there is planting evidence (the mask in Gabriel’s apartment) offering a deal without a lawyer present (offering Gabe immunity) and now sleeping with an informant, a/k/a TEGAN! It seems Tegan played Telesco and sleeps with her only to go on to the higher ups at the FBI and express the need for a new agent. So, Telesco gets thrown off the case for now and Tegan buys Annalise some time before they assign a new agent.

We end the episode with Annalise getting a call from an unknown number who turns out to be… the GOVERNOR (Laura Innes). She insists that she has nothing to do with Miller’s death or Nate Sr.’s death, but she does know who killed the latter. It seems she believes that Emmett killed Nate Sr. and she may have evidence to back that up.
